Ruaya, Local Product Story Exhibited Abroad

The speaker box that is being sounded because it is synchronized with the phone is different. Not because the sound produced, but the box as big as the head of an adult is made from wood.

The color is not much, just painted with a color that actually strengthen the wood from the product. The impression is classic and premium.

Dody Andri, the creator, said that he really wanted to innovate to create different products.

He then told me, the wooden speaker he made inspired from a speaker he saw in an exhibition. At that time, the speakers at the exhibition made of bamboo.

"After (from the exhibition) I thought, why not make (speakers made from wood)?" He remembers.

After that, he moves the crafters to make wooden speakers. Unexpectedly, the product actually brings the name of Ruaya not only in Indonesia, but also the international world.

"Marketing is far away. In the country, the label from Yogyakarta has reached Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali. If abroad, product marketing has come to exhibition in Paris, "he added again.

Javanese philosophy

Basically Ruaya's first product is not a speaker, but a watch. Dody told me that the various products he made were related to innovation. Products, he said, need a refresher to keep looking for people.

Speaking of names, he also said that Ruaya has the meaning of the skipjack breeding cycle.

"Skipjack is (fish) that must keep moving. Otherwise, the channels in his body will be frozen. The choice, move or die, "he said.
In his view, it is the same as the Javanese philosophy, namely "na ora obah ora mamah" which means "if it does not work, then one can not eat".

"I think it's good to apply to the ethos of a product," he said.

Moving interpreted by him the same as having to continue to innovate. Innovation was not only limited to various products. Doddy also racked his brain while looking for replacement wood as the base material of his product.

Initially, he used sonokeling wood because of the beauty of texture. Unfortunately, it's kind of hard to come by. Therefore, he looks for a change.

"I'm looking for a similar texture, it can be wood mindi," he said.

Mindy wood is widely available in Indonesia. This wood type has a different fiber pattern on each part so it can provide a good texture for Doddy's products. It's been so, this wood is light.

Until now, he continues to innovate and move like the philosophy he applied. The product continues to grow. Later, he made books, wallets, and wooden bags.
"Bags close to everyday (many people)," added Dody who fix prices ranging from Rp 100,000 to Rp 900,000 for its products.
