This is probably the worse bit of news that I have gotten in the past couple of months. I really hope that they uphold the integrity of Keybase. I have really started to enjoy using it on a daily basis. I have no love for Zoom. The fact that they only took care of their security issues after their hand was forced is very telling to me. I have little faith that they have any integrity in the way they do business. Time will tell if I continue to use Keybase.
What particular issues do you have with Zoom? Are they evil or incompetent?
Both.

They do say "In fairness, Zoom is not inherently bad". They became much bigger by luck. We know most people do not think much about security, but Zoom have been called out and fixed a lot of issues.
I've never used Zoom. Probably won't unless I am forced to. I work in a field where privacy is important. Just like health care has HIPPA, we have FERPA for student safety. I am not saying Google is perfect, but our GSuite licensing specifically addresses FERPA and protects our students. They might sell everyone's data that owns a Gmail account, but they are smart enough not to touch the GSuite stuff. For that reason and several others we will be sticking with Google Meet for our conferencing.
Fair enough. There are various options out there, but people say that if the product is free then they are probably making money from your data.
As far as I know the Keybase chat is very secure, but they were not likely to do audio or video.
