Joker and Modern type of “smiling” depression

in #entertainment5 years ago

Recently I watched Joker 2019 starring Joaquin Phoenix and was pleasantly surprised how psychologically deep that movie was and how acting is totally believable. I didn't read reviews before watching so probably expected some superficial usual Batman- Joker action type film. From the first minutes to the end the film grabbed all the imagination showing the life struggle and how unfair rough dim reality people could face.

The Joker hit the Box Office: ‘Joker’ Becomes First R-Rated Movie to Hit $1 Billion and the reason is easy to understand if to look around in the world and see the amount of strikes from Chile and Lebanon to Barcelona and London

It seems the amount of people who feel unsatisfied with the quality of their life or in depression is rising. Maybe it's modern style of living: processed food and luck of nutrients that could lead to psychological instability.
Corporations rule the world and who knows what's in that food in supermarkets.

Maybe it is media bombarding with all the bad news every few hours. Maybe luck of journalists standarts and hate speech that is througout the internet.

Maybe it's overall feeling of uncertainty and not confidence in future. How many homeless in the world or the ones on poverty level or the ones for whom
loosing their job will mean to appear in those categories.

Somehow the dream appeared to be working far not for everyone in the world. What the rest should feel like?

This is why Joker to my opinion became so popular. People just recognizing themselves when damaged from inside they continue to smile, because from childhood people were instilled with responsibility for those around, "stiff upper lip" what others expect. When one understands that have depression, understands that have the same modern “smiling” depression feeling totally devastating from inside this is when Joker's hysterical laugh resonates.
