The Queen of Disco, Donna Summer, died of lung cancer on this day in 2012. She believed her fatal illness was contracted from inhaling toxic particles after the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York. Summer won five Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, and had three multi-platinum albums during her career spanning four decades. In the 1980s, Summer became the subject of controversy within in the gay community, one of her most loyal fanbases, for allegedly saying, "It was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." She never made the statement but the myth continues to this day. Summer did, however, make other disparaging remarks about gay men after becoming a "loving, accepting, born again Christian." Her beliefs cost her many fans, but 'Last Dance' is still the go-to song at closing time in many gay bars around America.

She was a truly talented singer who died way too young.

What a legend, I really love her 'hot stuff' and 'unconditionally love' songs :)

I like the ones nobody likes - lol!

The death of the people who are myth is really unfortunate. Thank you for sharing with us
