This is my entry on the impact of Covid19 for #thaiphotocontest62 hosted by @thaiteam. The other day while shopping for food in a small local area, I noticed a young man standing in front of 7/11 checking temperature of each customer before letting her entering the store.
It amazes me to see most Thai people give complete cooperation on all these new norms under the national lockdown. Every customer is also given a few drops of hand gel to sanitise their hands too. All of these measures help to make people feel psychologically more secured and safer. Now it has become compulsory that all customers must wear masks in the store. It disturbs me somewhat seeing people passively following new rules or changes to our way of living without deeper questioning and analysis. I know that wearing masks and keeping hands off one’s face is important in reducing the chance of catching the coronavirus. But most people don’t know how to wear their masks correctly and how to keep their masks on hygienically all day. Luckily, the sun ray is very fierce and strong these days. At least, I have noticed less people coming down with flu or cold in which these cotton masks play a positive role.
เมื่อสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมาเราไปเดินซื้อของที่ชุมชนเก่าแก่ของคนจีน ที่อยู่ไม่ไกลจากเขตบางรัก ทำให้ได้คิดย้อนถึงสมัยก่อน ที่เราไปอยู่กับญาติฝ่ายจีนตอนเป็นเด็ก เราได้คิดหวนถึงสมัยเป็นเด็กและความทรงจำดีๆในวัยเด็กที่มีแต่ความสนุก ไม่ต้องมีความรับผิดชอบ เล่นกับเพื่อนๆแถวบ้านทุกวัน เราเดินไปก็สังเกตเห็นชายหนุ่มยืนตรวจอุณหภูมิให้กับลูกค้าทุกคน ก่อนปล่อยให้เดินเข้าไปในร้าน แถมยังมีการกดเจลแอลดอฮอลล์ใส่มือให้ลูกค้าด้วย ทุกคนก็ทำตามโดยดีอย่างเรียบร้อย เพราะเชื่อว่าจะทำให้ปลอดภัยจากเชื้อไวรัสนี้ เราแปลกใจในความว่านอนสอนง่ายของคนไทยมาก ในแง่หนึ่งก็เป็นสิ่งที่ดี เพราะการใส่หน้ากากอนามัย และการไม่สีมผัสใบหน้าด้วยมือช่วยลดความเสี่ยงในการติดเชื้อไวรัส การใส่หน้ากากก็ช่วยลดการติดเชื้อจากละอองฝอยทางอากาศ แต่เราอยากเห็นการคิดวิเคราะห์ด้วยตนเองมากกว่านี้ เช่น การใส่หน้ากากอนามัยทั้งวันอย่างไรจึงจะไม่ให้กลายเป็นแหล่งสะสมเชื้อโรคอื่นๆ เราเห็นคนส่วนใหญ่ใส่หน้ากากไม่เป็น การถอดวางเพื่อกินข้าวกินนํ้า เขาจะไม่ค่อยระวังเรื่องสุขลักษณะเท่าไร แล้วก็เอามือที่ไม่สะอาดมาจับหน้ากากเพื่อใส่ต่ออีก โชคดีที่แดดที่นี่มีรังสียูวีที่แรงมาก จึงช่วยฆ่าเชื่อไวรัสที่ลอยอยู่ในอากาศ และติดอยู่ตามพื้นผิวต่างๆ
สิ่งที่เราเห็นชัดจาดการใส่หน้ากาก คือคนเป็นหวัดกันน้อยลงมาก คนไอคนจามก็จามอยู่ในหน้ากาก เชื้อไวรัสที่กระจายออกมาก็ลดลง คนที่ใส่หน้ากากอนามัยก็มีโอกาสติดไข้หวัดน้อยลง
Another 7/11 store also has a man in front of the store to check for customers’ fever and to dispense hand sanitiser to each customer. The store has a new rule: all customers must wear protective masks before entering the stores!
