This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. My walk along the dirt road towards the river took me about fifteen minutes. This was my walk to see the annual boat race and to check out the local village fair.
The weather was very hot and sunny so I needed an umbrella to give me some protection from heat stroke. I walked past a few houses along the way until I saw several cars parking by the road; these cars probably belonged to visitors from nearby villages.
There’s a short cut to the river but most people did not like to go through this way for fear of snakes. They said those big snakes were living in the nearby bush. I used to go through this path when it was very thick in rainy season. I had to sing very loud to frighten all the snakes away.
I had to turn right by this fisherman’s hut. Then it took another fifty meters to reach the road by the river.
The simple fisherman’s shack by the river was full of children and people who gathered there to see the boat race in the afternoon.
It was nice to be there earlier as there was still ample walking space and I could easily take my photos. A few shops were already opened for young customers. Groups of children and housewives were out to survey the venue of the boat race.
When I spotted some jasmine garlands or flowers being offered at some random trees, that signaled to me to be careful walking pass this spot. Local villagers had secret knowledge about the land and associated myths or beliefs which would be kept secret. I had to make an effort to learn about local wisdom in order to stay on the safe side. I would walked quietly with respect to that spot of land.
Hopeful vendors trying to make some money by the end of the day.
Life is quite tough for most people lately, I could glimpse this feeling among shop owners and vendors. I do hope more tourists would come to visit our country.
This year the water level in the river became very low. So, the boat race would be less strenuous than previous years. But the rowers would have a long walk down to their long boats. Lots of visitors settled down for a picnic under some remaining trees by the river.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Cheers.

Its my pleasure to host this tag :)
What a fun day! I love the idea of singing loudly to keep the snakes away.
It did work twice! So, that’s my secret weapon to frighten both snakes and people away!
I can scare people away when I sing too! It's a gift.
