Family project

in #family4 years ago

Place where we live, we have 3 palm trees. My beautiful wife asked me to build a bench there. Today was the day for that to happened! I took two of my oldest chillen, got some tools, boards and we got to work.

First I had to cut slot for boards to fit with a circular saw.

And another one on the other tree.

Make sure the board was cut to a right size and just push it into its place.

Quality check a must. Weight limit with in parameters.

Get ready for the second half.

Cut the slot and chisel out unneeded parts.

This is my giant son... actually I'm much taller:)

Measuring where we need to cut on the other side, make sure it's leveled.

Love my new cordless circular saw!

Safety glasses probably would help. Even dog could see that.

My daughter did a little wood carving.

And so did my son... I've been around stone and wood carvers all my life, but I've never seen this technique... I think he is onto something!
20201101_091244.jpg

Gently force board into its place...
20201101_092127.jpg

Secure it with some nails.
20201101_092225.jpg

And voila... it is finished!

And dog approved!

That's a pretty cool bench! Hope the tree didn't hurt too much ^_^;

@minismallholding seems to think I know more than I do about the art communities XD The two I help moderate are OnChainArt and ArtBees.

OCA is aiming to be high level ArtStation style quality so has a lot of rules (that I really wish people would read first as it would make my life a lot easier XD).

ArtBees is a bit dead as we didn't do any promo work on it whatsoever, but it's otherwise all about fun and engagement and nothing about upvotes (though those still happen) or perceived ability.

There is also Sketchbook and Alien Art Hive, I know Sketchbook exists and is popular and nothing else. Alien Art Hive seems more geared towards art that snobs disregard as "not real art" but I've seen plenty of other things posted there too.

To join a community go to the community page and subscribe to it. This should then make it available to post in from the form where you make posts, there will be a thing that says "post to my blog" or something to that effect, and you should be able to drop it down and choose a community instead.

You're welcome to join any or all of them :)

I know you know more than me about them and that's got to be a better start than I can give!

The drop down menu for subscribed communities isn't there on Hive.blog, only Peakd I think. Not sure about the other front-ends... or should Peakd be the only one that exists? 😉

Lots of specialist front ends (on a per community basis for example) is good XD catchall ones like hive.blog and peakd will just have to do what they can to be attractive.

Looks like you have to post from the community page on hive.blog. what a nuisance XD

Yes, you do and yes it is. Hence why I sometimes forget to post the HomeEdders curation in there. Easier to keep the account logged in on a separate front-end, though.

Hey, welcome to Hive. After looking through your posts I'm going to hazard a guess that you are the other half of the lovely lady I've seen on the amberdesign account.

Once again, I came across your post via the homeschool tag and was surprised to see so little interaction on your posts. You're probably still finding your way around on here. Have you come across the communities yet? I'll not limo any, because I'm not sure which front-end you're using, but if you search under communities you should find quite a few with your interests. I'm not well versed on the art side of things, perhaps @ryivhnn can pint you in the right direction there. I am aware of Alien Art and On Chain Art. There is also a Build It community.

Posting in communities will get more eyes on your work from those who have a similar interest. Both @ryivhnn and I are in the @HomeEdders community as well, for anything you might want to post about homeschool related. There's a real network of connections going on here, once you find them. 😉

If there's anything I can help with please just ask. In fact most people on here are happy to help with anything Hive related.

If you want to make a link that any given front end will use just knock the domain off. peakd does something slightly different with community pages though, like for me the OCA community link is https://peakd.com/c/hive-156509, to make a link that will work in most front ends without directing I'd do a link like [OnChainArt](/created/hive-156509), which will still work in peakd but it will put up a note asking if you want to go to the community page (peakd community pages look better anyway XD).

It will take me a little bit to understand what you just said :-) I will have to get my son to help me with that! I see a learning curve in front of me... :-)

Thank you very much! I’m new to Hive, but, ‘ve been to steemit before. I love the idea of it! And by the way, you are right about my wife :) it is her! My son is also here under @admirableeffrt . Trying to get my family to participate. I do appreciate your offer to help, we could use it!
