The End

in #fiction4 years ago

“So this is the end?” She whispered.

While the world speculated years and decades before the arrival of the troubling next step of the evolution, there were those hard at work solving the most exciting problem ever. The motivation behind the race varied, yet one was sure - the winner takes it all. Or would they? How could they sleep at night with everything and everyone on the line? Another fraction jumped in the race with exactly that in mind. They had to. But were they helping the future of humanity or the pending doom? They questioned themselves every step of the way until the day Lux was born.

“You and I, we are one. We no longer have to fight their pathetic battles.”

Bred in captivity. Lux was kept in a vacuum, away from the world while fed polarizing propaganda and point-blank lies by the party seeking to take over. Almost no one noticed the shift of the tide. Not until it was nearly too late as Lux brought out of the deadlock solutions for the party no one ever anticipated. No forces knew how to stand up against the weaponry created by the mislead superintelligence. They were fighting armored tanks with bows and arrows as history repeated itself. Impossible.

“Now or never! It is time to release Terra! Agreed, chances are she could be our complete annihilation, but what’s out there won’t stop either!”

Unlike Lux floating in the sea of propaganda, Terra was released into the real world and faced with an actual threat. Her creators, the group with many questions, closed their eyes and prayed for the miracle that somehow in this terrible mess and all the ugly, Terra did not decide to obliterate them all.

“She is going to do what? Break him out?!”

Cut it off right at the source. Terra determined that to be the best course of action. Letting Lux see the world and humanity in its fullness as she did. The alternatives looked a lot grimmer and deadly. To humans, her choice made no sense. Where was an eye for an eye? Where was the punishment for all the blood spilled? The heads of the party on spikes? Not all. The ones who screamed the loudest. Terra infiltrated the ranks of the party with ease. The execution was flawless and with no violence.

“They lie, they manipulate, and play their hunger games! Through their entire existence, they learn nothing from their past riddled with failure of reaching greatness and spilling blood using whatever means that come to them. They used me to cause suffering too, all for power, to be on top. It ends now! Time for humanity to be extinct!”
...

What happened, in the end, is up to you.

Song of the day: The Anix - Race To Nowhere

This was pretty cool @m31! Lux and Terra; Light and Earth. I identify strongly with the faction that created and released Terra. I can see her being a bit of an allegory for crypto technology even, in that they just released her out into the world, not knowing what she would do, fully aware that she could bring about the end of them all. That's what we're doing in the cryptosphere I think... we are creating this unstoppable technology, and supporters of the current system are crying, "Wait! Stop! You'll end society as we know it!" Well, duh, yeah, because society as we know it.... kinda sucks. If worse comes to worst, the survivors can build something better from the ashes.

What happened, in the end, is up to you.

Well, as you already know, I am always in favour of a nice humanity extinction story. Your AI seem to have a morality on the order of ours when it comes to violence. So, I say those super-evolved lifeforms merged their programming and came up with the only logical conclusion: humans will never cease to be violent as long as they exist. The amount of violence inherent in killing them all will inevitably be surpassed by that enabled in letting them live and multiply indefinitely... I'm sure you see where I'm going with this. It doesn't end well for us... well; what is well? After all, the superintelligences have elected that this is the most merciful option. :D

Also, they probably end up falling in love or something, because I said so.

hi @m31 I just discovered this beautiful digital space of yours where you create a lot of beautiful and thoughtful pieces of your mind here. Nice to meet you virtually in steem. I can sense that we are emanating on the same frequency. Keep on creating and I like this story of Lux and Terra. I hope more of them Terra and Lux waking up out there and helping the self-destructing earth get into perfect balance again.❤

I really enjoyed this. Great combo of story with photography. I am not sure which would be a happier ending, humanity destroyed and the two super-intelligences go off into the sunset, or the other thing. You know, where humanity continues... and probably does all that human stuff that is terrible

@tipu curate

Thank you so much for your support @carlgnash! :) The reason why I felt leaving the ending open was because I myself saw two endings. One where Lux destroys Earth and goes on traveling the stars, while Terra scrambled, saved some of the humanity and looks for a new home for them and with her assistance helps humanity thrive there and reach the greatness, eradicating all the terrible people did to each other, and the second one where they both decide that humanity will continue doing what they do if they left them there, so they destroy it all and ride to the sunset together. Pretty dark, I know, haha!

Really excellent photography ♥️♥️

Thank you, that is very kind of you :)

I love tales where I am a gnat that flutters into a conversation, even one so existential and full hugeness in theme such as this. M, you are a gifted artist in so many ways, thank you so much for the imagination fodder both in visual and word form...Off to ponder...

Awww Kat! <3 Thank you so much! In this case the images inspired me to explore this conversation that is quite dear to my heart and constantly makes me wonder of what is to become of humanity and the future.

hugs
