If you've clicked on this post because of the title, then you're in the right place. I know because the title immediately resonates with you. You've been paying a lot of bills lately, and somehow it looks like you even need to hustle even harder for the things you could comfortably afford to do five years ago.
Somehow I think life wasn't designed to be like this and it's only enabled because humanity has monetized every single thing we used to enjoy for free, and this isn't on people who are rich alone.
In so many countries health care is basically unaffordable, pharmaceutical companies are producing subscription based drugs instead of producing cures. Landlords and house owners are increasing price of rent, tourist centers are now expensive.
The likes of HULU, and Netflix are always hiking the price of their streaming services. Utility bills are unbelievable, and if you're doing a master's degree program somewhere then you must've seen how unaffordable the price has become.
The job market is currently too saturated, this is mostly because of greed more than any other thing. These things are general cause of depression.
People need to now do so much to go by in life. In the past, people don't need too much to go by and live an averagely decent life, but the gap between the elite and the people at the bottom of the food chain is becoming so increasingly high.
If you notice lately you'll discover that rich people are now becoming excessively richer, and a lot of them are doing things that unethical because they want to become richer than they currently are.
It could get worse
Looking at life critically, I it might get worse. This behavioral tendency is looking like what we see in a post-apocalyptic world: people giving in to their greed and animalistic tendencies.
Stealing or taking away what's meant for others to have simply for greed sake. I won't be surprised if a mad scientist someday develops a crazy virus, spread that everywhere and starts selling the cure.
People like this will not mind if humanity and civilization shuts down provided they can make money and become excessively rich. Greed has always been the problem of humanity and funny enough we know that this is the fundamental problem, but there's no fixing humanity.
Greed is why we're here today, people not getting satisfied with what they have, stealing or forcefully taking the enablement that other people should enjoy.
For the average person, I think we might continue to pay bills for the rest of our lives, and then begin to experience depression from not meeting up with these bills, and this depression gets even more if you suddenly develop a medical condition that you cannot afford to pay for care, or you already have a chronic condition and you cannot afford to pay anymore.
Greed might be the end of humanity
The biggest issues we have is that selfishness and greed has taken over industries. The other day, the hospital I attend to see a specialist announced that they're going to be giving free healthcare for over 50 people and they made sure they publicized this.
It didn't make sense to me because they didn't subsidize the price of existing patience, if for anything, they've increased the price by over 40% in just 3 years. But this supposed free healthcare makes them get attention of non-governmental organizations which can in turn send them millions of money, and they're not doing it because of humanity.
I just wanted to rant about this. I woke up feeling a bit fazed by how it's virtually impossible to afford things I could comfortably do.
Always something insightful from your posts.
Nowadays the top most profitable businesses are schools, hospitals, medicines and alcohol shops, not because of quality, but because of human greed.
Another worst part is how people doing handwork have seen theft as a common thing, ask them to do work for you and what they are mainly after is how to extort money from you through the materials they are getting or any kind of lies just to make sure they see more than they are supposed to get...
Most of the things that are now expensive to do or get is man made.. we are our problem..
