How I started my fitness journey as a little fatboy

in #fitness7 years ago

What's up guys, while I'm procrastinating on doing some homework I thought I would make a post about how I started to take control over my health.

So as a kid I was pretty big, like really big. At the end of 8th grade I weighed 186 lbs and was about 5'8" (I know right). I really wanted to lose weight but there was no real motivation for me to do so. I remained the fat kid through middle school. When I finally finished middle school I started thinking about what life would be like in high school as a fat kid. It was gonna suck.

My dad would always tell me stories about how he was a ladies man in high school and I began to start caring about female attention. I wanted to be that guy with the six pack and the dime of a girlfriend so I started to work for it.

Over the summer I worked my ass off everyday with some old weights my dad used to have. I even went to Sears and bought a 5' two piece aluminum bar with a vinyl covered concrete weight set for around $100. With the limited space on my boiling hot patio in the California summer, I worked out for about an hour everyday on the weights and then rode my bike down some local trails for about another hour after.

The main part is to find consistency in your program. I found a program on YouTube by Mike Chang for beginners that I followed with no previous experience. Worked out great. I also followed a fairly strict diet but I did have a cheat day every once in a while with my family. My typical day of eating looked like...

Breakfast: 4-5 scrambled eggs only seasoned with black and cayenne pepper.

Lunch: A whole grilled chicken breast and about a cup of brown rice

After workout: same as lunch (I prepared dozens of these in tupper ware to be reheated)

Dinner: Either the same as lunch or instead of chicken breast about 8 oz of steak

My diet was severely lacking in diversity but it was making enormous results. Fast forward a couple months and now I'm a naive freshman in high school. I didn't kill it with women because I still thought like a fat kid and was hella self conscious. Its a slow process but I didn't really become comfortable with girls till my trip to the Czech Republic the next summer (story for another post). At the end though, I was actually starting to communicate with girls and was figuring it all out.

I believe that the thirst for female attraction was my main reason for working out, which sounds kind of vain and kind of like a dick, but I don't worry too much about that. It has helped me so much in all other aspects of my life and I am a much healthier and happier person because I was so driven to no longer be another fat kid who shied away from girls.

Thats about it for the start of my journey, obviously it is still going and I am still trying to improve every day and not only on my physique. Talk to you guys next time:)
