- They belong to the Orchidaceae, and there are more than 28,000 species of them.
- Many of them get their nutrition by parasitizing soil fungi. Others grow anchored to trees and shrubs or on rocks.
- There are clubs and societies dedicated to encouraging cultivation and collection of orchids.
- The well known Vanilla is also part of the orchid family.
- Orchids are National Flowers in Venezuela, Colombia' Belize, Panama, Guatemala, and Singapore.

Undoubtedly the orchids are beautiful, I know very well I am Venezuelan and it is very common to see them in the gardens of the houses.
