Been a while since I've had the flu, at least this harsh.
I remember whenever I got "sick" as a kid it was always runny nose and coughs, so much coughing. To the point where even my dad some times would get too annoyed by it as he was trying to sleep, even though he obviously knew I couldn't help it, lol.
I've kinda always had something "weird" with my throat, not really sure why, but I remember how a few times I'd be close to suffocating from small things most people would find harmless. Like, this one time at work I threw a sugar cube into my mouth and realise a few seconds in that I couldn't breath, luckily there was a faucet there nearby so I could use the water to melt the sugarcube I guess? and I was breathing again. The same thing happened with a very minty piece of gum once when I was riding in a car, it would've been harder there to find some liquid nearby but luckily the situation dissolved on its own after a few seconds not being able to breathe in.
I've also had trouble swallowing single things in the past, like pills for instance. I'd always ask if they have a pulverised version of it that I could take with a glass of water or if it's okay to break it into two pieces. It's kind of a little mindgame when you're sitting and trying to swallow a pill with some water but for some reason it just doesn't work, your body just doesn't obey you like there's an invisible force getting in the way.
A lot of weird glitches in this human version.
Either way, I've kinda been doing good for the past couple decades, not gotten sick too often and whenever it feels like I'm about to it usually goes away the next day or later that day. This time was different, I felt my nose start to burn extra rough when inhaling a couple days ago and my throat already kind of sore, this flu was "aggressive" from the get-go so to speak, the day after felt a bit okay-ish but today when I woke up it was like my lungs were filled with phlegm and it hurt a lot in the morning when I was coughing up the night's collection. Other than the occasional coughs and runny nose I also feel kind light-headed all the time and my body feels warmer even though I don't have a fever.
The main reason I hate the flu however is because you can't do much during it, like not even entertaining procrastinating things you'd be able to do any other day when you "just don't feel like doing anything". I tried watching a movie earlier and it was so not interesting that I couldn't make it through all the way. Yet here I am writing a quick shitpost somehow, not sure why, maybe cause I haven't posted in a while again but thought I'd also mention a new tactic I wanna try against these auto-downvoters without it seeming like I'm just trying to self-vote for rewards.
The tactic is that whenever/if someone on their own accord upvotes a comment or post of mine and the autodownvotes occur, I'll be countering them a day or two later. This means that my curation rewards still take a hit because I'm voting after a few days due to the daily penalty.
The idea is that those who may vote on my comments on their own don't get penalized by the autodownvoters, at the same time I get less curation returns which in turn counters the downvoted penalty of the upvoters and gives me some author rewards so "no one" really loses out. This effectively makes whatever they're trying to do with their autodownvote trail have no effect.
So if you see me casting small upvotes on my own comments, I hope you realize it's cause of that and not cause I'm trying to earn rewards or something. I should however post a bit more often cause I could definitely use more rewards to spend on some of my projects I'd wanna see do better.
Thanks for reading, gonna go try take a nap now.
That thing about not being able to swallow properly sounds awful. I feel like something similar happened to me when I was little, but I never knew if it was real or just my own paranoia haha.
And I totally get what you said about being sick and not even feeling like procrastinating… You think you’re going to take advantage of the time to watch movies or catch up on a million things, but in the end you just want to stare at the ceiling and exist as little as possible. I found your strategy against the automatic downvotes really interesting—like, I feel you thought of something super fair for others without forgetting to protect yourself. That says a lot about how you manage your spaces.
P.S.: You should write more oftennn, and honestly, I don’t know, sometimes I feel like writing heals more than any medicine (well, maybe not more than antibiotics, let’s not get crazy haha).
Get lots of rest and drink soup 💗
Oh, I can relate with you're feeling with the flu - not feeling like doing anything or having difficulty with taking the pills.
This is so me whenever I get sick, it just kinda makes me feel useless, and I hate it. But what can we do, sickness is one of the weird things that comes to us as humans.
Don't think too much about the flu, it'll go away before you realize it. I hope you get better soon.
Being sick like that makes a person feel like trapped in their own body. If I say in a fun way, it's more like you’re trying to function but everything’s lagging. Sometimes small things can mess with our heads. It's a matter of sadness about your flu but I also want to say that it's brave that you’re still finding ways to keep going. The interesting part is you even thought about strategy with the downvotes. Rest well, I hope your next post will be flu-free and will be a lot of good vibes.
Hello @acidyo, yes, a flu is so unpleasant because you feel awful even when you are doing nothing at all. Even normally enjoyable things like reading a book or watching a movie become hard when your head hurts so much you can barely concentrate. Fortunately, I am in good health and rarely get a severe flu (and I don't have health insurance either, so let's hope that I won't catch anything even worse!).
I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery! 😊
What an amazing coincidence. I went out with a girl once who had difficulty swallowing. Not sure about sugar cubes though...
Anyway. Get well soon and if people upvote your comments, it's to help you counteract the knobheads.
Take care and have the best weekend you can :-)
I don't know about you but whenever I've flue like you i only take a special tea.... I don't know if you can try it or not.... But i can tell you if it works for you or you want to take it.
Try this if you want but here i can send you warm wishes 🙏
!HUG
I hope you are feeling better, @acidyo. Drink plenty of fluids.
Sounds like you have a sensitive airway. Sometimes when we talk, eat, do something while chewing, or when we're anxious, the muscles don’t coordinate properly. Then you can get a laryngospasm, that’s when you feel like you can’t breathe. One simple thing that really helps is chewing and swallowing with your mouth closed. I find that effective, especially when I eat spicy food. I don't choke, but if I don't pay attention, I normally do, and it is annoying.
Also, inhaling deeply and holding your breath briefly for about 10 seconds allows the air to get behind the phlegm. Then, cough forcefully from your lungs (not your throat). This helps clear it up and allows you to get more oxygen. Get well soon! :)
Need to try that second thing, haven't tested that before!
It reminded me of how to get rid of a hiccup however, holding my breath for 30+ seconds once or twice usually always works to get rid of it. :D
That's right, hiccup means you have too much oxygen. Holding your breath is effective as you are lowering the oxygen, also breathing into a paper bag gets rid of it. The difference is that for the phlegm in your lungs, you'll need to breathe in deeper (as deep as you can, which also expands your lungs and gets more oxygen), then hold it in and let the air go behind the phlegm, then cough out with force. 😊
Get well soon.💪
Consider taking honey with tea.
Maybe @ghilvar has a great suggestion for curing this.
Regarding the downvotes in the comments, I'm not sure, but wouldn't @dustsweeper's help be a good solution?
myea but I think you have to pay for that service
Yes, it's paid. But I think it's worth it.
Since I'm not entirely sure, here's some information for your review: https://peakd.com/dustsweeper/@dustsweeper/dustsweeper-s-faq
@acidyo ... Echinacea and rosehip extracts can be a great help in increasing your body's resistance to these ailments. Sensitive individuals can also take them continuously. Take these plants as a tincture: 30 drops in a little water, morning and evening. Difficulty swallowing may indicate chronic inflammation of the throat, especially around the tonsils. A thorough examination will determine whether some individuals are constantly inflamed, year-round, and this is not good. Thyme is excellent for these problems. Add 50 drops of thyme tincture to water and gargle every night.
That sounds rough...sorry you’re going through it right now, but I swear, bodies can be such weird glitchy machines sometimes. I honestly wonder how you can still write with all that discomfort....don’t think I’m that strong. Really hope the nap helps and that you bounce back soon. Sending good vibes for a quick recovery.
From personal experience, I really recommend honey with a pinch of cayenne pepper it helps loosen mucus and soothe the throat. Supplement zinc and make sure to stay well hydrated. It won’t fix everything instantly, but it usually makes flu symptoms a lot more bearable. Hope you feel better soon!
I have read your post and it's all situation related to me 😭 Because I also have childhood 🤧 flu. I ate many expensive medicines to cure this flu disease but in vain. I can't also sleep peacefully because of heavy nose. Now I thought flu will remain with me whole life. I can understand your pain. God bless you 😇.
So sorry about the ill Health, I will suggest you visit a doctor if you haven't. That might be an allergic reactions causing that but since it haven't happened for a while now, maybe there a natural progress..
Stay Healthy Man...
I had trouble swallowing pills when I was young, and I still find tablets hard to take. I just don’t take them. Oh my goodness, I think I caught the flu on Tuesday night, and the symptoms you mentioned exactly matched what I experienced. Currently, the only remaining symptoms are loss of taste and smell.
Dang, sounds bad, luckily my appetite remained somewhat the same and I'm slowly recovering now, just a nasty cough every few minutes remains. Hope you recover soon as well and that things start tasing again :D
Good for you! I'm slowly getting my sense of taste back, but my sense of smell hasn't returned to normal yet. Thanks a lot!
Hello my dear friend, I hope you feel better. The flu is a very bad illness and it is really annoying, especially when it involves the lungs and makes breathing difficult. In my opinion, you should try turmeric tea either with warm water or with milk and have it once or twice a day. It eliminates all inflammations. It is a very strong antioxidant. It doesn't harm, definitely do this.
Sometimes you can also steep cinnamon sticks in warm water.
Seeing this post is weird, I woke up this morning with little signs of flu. I took drugs immediately even if I don’t like to because I don’t want it to become so serious.
Hope you feel better now? I’ll try to keep up with my drugs so I can function properly.
Take good care of yourself, those poorly cured flus are very bad, drink hot guarapo, malojillo ginger and ground turmeric, make a tea and sleep well.
Sorry about your flu, hope you get a little better after taking a nap and some medicine 🤗
Sounds horrible. Hope you feel better soon.
I wish you a good and fast recovery!
I also don't want to do anything when I'm sick and I don't want to eat either. Get well soon @acidyo .
hang in there ...
I am glad that you are not considering euthanasia for a simple flu. I nearly always ask the doctor for this option when I have a cold, or a virus. Sometimes, they are quite alarmed. Othertimes, they get my humor, and accuse me of not being unwell at all.
Hope you get well soon, and that tactic against autodownvotes sounds smart and fair!
I always enjoy reading your posts. You have portrayed this flu-horror experience very realistically. Your new strategy is really great and I respect you for thinking of others.
Get well soon
I got Covid for the first time this past year and it was horrible. I haven't been that sick since I started working in public education. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. It's almost like a right of passage. I hope you get fully recovered soon!
It is certain that when there is a minor illness in the body or a high fever, the body will not feel happy. You are very fortunate that you have successfully recovered from the difficulty of breathing twice. This is not possible without the grace of God. Stay safe and be happy. @acidyo
Get well soon, man!
Like others said, some tea (I use green tea) and honey (I use Clover honey) might help. These cough drops are good too, got my fam safely through the covid years (we think, one never knows exact cause and effect).
Sleep well and wishing you a healthier tomorrow!
I have had a shit couple of days too, out of nowhere, sore throat dry cough and now a snotty nose. Just a glitch in the system. natural remedies for me, no mass pharma product or divine intervention
Must be the season
That is the first time I have had a cold in about 10 years, all cleared up now....hope yours is too
getting there, thanks!
good news 👍
Take it easy and recover. And great to see you posting again!
Both that sugar cube and gum moments sound terrifying. I'm glad you got through them. To be honest, I can't even think of not breathing for such reasons, and for a while. Rest up and take it easy for now. I hope you recover soon.
Greetings, I hope you feel better completely. Those colds are fatal, and as for your swallowing difficulties, they're probably the result of a throat infection. It would be good to have you checked out by a specialist. It's a pleasure to see you back.
I hope you get better soon. It's strange not seeing you creating content so often. I hope you can write more often. Take care.
This season, flu is being harsh, I had the Australian one a few months ago and it has been the worst flu I ever took in my life and it took 15 days to go away
Have rest and take care, paracetamol be your friend
The invisible force is a kid in your heart most likely.
Greetings brother, I'm glad to see you again. Of course, I hope you continue writing more often and that your plan works.
You are healed bro. Take care author. ❤️❤️😍🌹
