RUSSIAN PICKLES RECIPE

RUSSIAN PICKLES RECIPE

How to make super quick and easy gherkin recipe. Gherkins or pickled cucumbers as they are also known are easy to make with a simple brine, pickling spices, garlic and dill.

It’s no secret that many things from your own kitchen are more flavourful, healthful, and nutrient dense than store-bought.

Pickles are no exception. You end up with crispy, fresh, delicious pickles that have all the raw nutrients in tact. These are eaten a lot in Latvia!

We have them as an entree with a shot of vodka before the starter and main course. Its very traditional in my family, all my friends that visited Latvia have done this ritual.

We will need

500 gr of small cucumbers or as many as you need for your jar
6 cloves of garlic
peppercorns
fresh dill
bay leaves
HOT water
Sugar
Salt

Directions

Step 1: Place the dill with garlic and peppercorns at the bottom. Layer the cucumbers and repeat the process until your jar is filled. You can use any glass jars you have at home.
Step 2 : Boil some water, dissolve sugar and salt and pour into your jar. Make sure to measure your salt and sugar. For each lt of water, we add 2 tbsp of large salt and 1 tsp of sugar.
Step 3: Close the lid and wait 24 hours! You can enjoy them straight after that!

I'm going to give this a shot. My wife likes cucumbers, i'm not a fan. I love dill pickles though. Just hope I can find Dill at my local grocery. You made it all the better by putting a bottle of Russian Standard in with the pickles!

I had never heard of that tradition before I'm eager to give it a shot! Thanks for sharing. :)

Most carry it nd even some roadside stands when it is in season but it is also actually easy to grow too if you have a patch of dirt. I grew some when I lived in a mobile home. Plant some seeds this year and you should have some for next years pickles. My mom makes them and they are nice garlicy snacks. :)

do it!! cant wait to see how it turns out!! vodka is a must :P

Can u russians make anything that don;t have votka on it

НЕТ НЕ МОЖЕМ! )))

Hahaha, I am not sure. All I remember is,

GYM, TAN, LAUNDRY!!!

i need to try this thanks for sharing

Nice but i don't know why you call them "russian".
Cucumbers were probably first pickled 4400 years ago (2400 B.C.E.) in Mesopotamia (Terebelski and Ralph 2003)
they are widely known in Central and Eastern Europe not only in Russia :)

russian only cos of vodka :) lol

I ate a whole jar of cucumbers for breakfast without vodka. Next time i will try with bottle of stolichnaya

You know this isn't just a Russin recipe, people make these in other slavic coutries as well, and they're delicious!

yes i wasn't implying its russian recipe, i just said vodka and cucumbers :d

Wonderful I did not have any idea how, will try this it looks delicious and I love my gerkins or cucumbers. Thanks for the recipy. Always love these posts.

I will find some time to give this pickle a try. I have never used any Russian pickle before. Thank you for sharing.

you are welcome!

These look great, definitely going to give them a try!

Excellent, Jamie

Tehehehe we have the same recepie here in Bulgaria :D
Although it doesn't always end up looking so good as in the picture that you have posted.
Sour pickles are amazing for some home made rakia and or vodka :D
Cheers for the great post and much love from me friend :)❤︎
Goldie

yes its very similar :))) glad you liked it!

I like cucumber very much and its pickle. I think its teast is really awesome. Thank you for shearing thjs lovelt recipe.

That remind me of my childhood. My grandmother make that recipe!

Didn't realise it was quite so easy to do pickling. So many fewer bits needed than are in the supermarket version.

yes its really easy :))) pppl think its more complicated!

Nice pickles!)

I have to say, that looks like "frog scuttle" from "The BFG" movie...

Nice to learn this way of pickle @allasyummyfood, in my country it is done differently with red vinegar, sugar and chili. We pickle mainly the tropical fruits of the season and stored in big jars! One of my favorite!

I thought vinegar would be one of the ingredients too.

Different places, different cultures and recipe for sure.

I have tried to make pickled sausages but never pickled cucomber. I saw a youtube vidio where russians put a slice of onion in sausages and pickle it. You do the same in Latvia. That would be a great video for me. Does it have to be Rusky Vodka.

Can you do a recipe for Lox?

I love pickles, thanks for sharing

oh, Good with Vodka !!!

So it would taste better if you make some pickles in Summer and eat it winter

These sound too easy to make... r they gud?
