La empanada venezolana, al igual que la arepa, forma parte importante de la gastronomía de Venezuela.
Es buena compañera para el desayuno, para el almuerzo, para la cena, después de salir del cine o de la discoteca, y al igual que la arepa criolla, este manjar caribeño no distingue entre profesiones, edades o clases sociales para que sea degustada de manera cautivadora.
Su preparación es muy sencilla y se basa en un envoltorio o pastel delgado y crujiente elaborado a partir de masa de harina de maíz precocida con agua, sal, un puntito de azúcar y un poquito de onoto para darle color; relleno de cualquier ingrediente que nos guste o que tengamos a mano, y esto va desde queso blanco llanero rallado, caraotas negras, carne mechada o carne molida, pollo desmechado, o cazón; el cual es finalmente freído en aceite.
