Greek Food Expeirence in a Heart of Bangkok!!

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Last Saturday I rang up my childhood friends for a gathering and we agreed to meet up for lunch. We didn't want to end up at the cliche Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese places which we have at every corners in the city but instead we went for something rather more exotic for us girls (even my first thought was Brazilian but I didn't get any feedback back from them so it was off the table.)

I googled up "Greek food Bangkok" and the first name on the list that popped up was "Avra" at Sukhumvit 33 road. We were not disappointed.

The decorations here are nicely done, it give out Mediterranean mood right when you step into the restaurant.

I tried Greek food once back in Doha at Intercontinental Hotel and I remembered it was very tasty and healthy. Most of the dishes come with their yogurt sauces and I am a yogurt lover so really I had no problem that the dip keeps popping up with every dishes we ordered at all!

We started off like decent people and ordered the appetizers first even I was so hungry like a mad cow.

After a few minutes of sipping on my pint of beer the first dish arrived. 3 types of dips served with Pita flat bread. The 3 dips we chose were yogurt dip , fafa beans paste (I liked this one the most) and minced eggplant.

And then the famous wine leaf stuffed with rice and dills, superb. (The lighting isn't ideally and I took all my pictures with my Iphone 6 so pardon me for not having the best quality of pictures I have posted like ever.)

For the main course, we ordered different dishes and shared so we all got to taste the varieties and it is more fun that way!

This is grilled chicken breast with yogurt sauce.

Here is grilled beef. They all have names in Greek but I don't remember any of the names so let's just go with my poorly brief descriptions right here lol!

I loved the potato chips that came with this dish so much, beef burger in Greek style so of course the Pita bread is a must!

We also ordered this interesting kebab looking with crab on crab like the picture from the menu. Fries in a wrap, seriously? Who did that and why??

Then here comes my mixed grilled, the lamb was just so O-M-G. I would even suggest you guys to go for only the grilled lamb chops which is on the menu as well. The medium well was perfectly grilled, I usually don't fancy lamb meat but this was terrific!!

I went all in and didn't leave any room for desert. If Greek food ever your choice of the eat-of-the-day. I recommend this place.

I had a lot of fun catching up with my girls from primary school and the food made it fantastic!

Thanks for reading and I hope you have enjoyed my post so far.

Much love,

Annie xo

Hey Annie, thanks a lot for sharing. I always find it interesting to see how one culture does another's food e.g. Greek food in Thailand. Just so you know, it is actually traditional for Greek kebabs to contain hot chips in them! We have a lot of Greek owned and run places here in Sydney and this is how they serve them here, as they do in Greece (along with tzatziki, onion, tomato and your chosen meat).

Greek's also do the best lamb so I'm not surprised the lamb meat was the best. They seem to really know how to bring out the best flavours in that particular meat!

I eat out a lot here too and if you're interested to see what Sydney has to offer check out my blog, just posted a recent review of a seafood restaurant here :) ...from a fellow foodie @phamished x

Wow! Thanks for the new information about Greek food! I’ve been to Sydney once but I was really young back then so I couldn’t remember much! I’ll make sure to follow up with your posts once I return from dinner! I’ll do follow you back too! It’s so nice to meet new people here and thank you for noticing me as well! :)

You're most welcome. Sydney's food scene has changed drastically over the past 5 years (expanded, depth and breadth of cultures has also increased) so I can only imagine how much it'd change for you if you ever did visit again (which you should!!).

Steemit is a really great place to meet people and I'm still new too so it's nice to meet you! Following you and look forward to your next food adventure :)

Yummy! This looks so good! :D Followed
