This weekend saw two Nigeria club side playing in the second tier of CAF Confederation cup after failing to progress in the money sniping CAF champions league in the qualifier format played early last month. Considering the fact that there has not been any top flight football in the domestic scene in Nigeria Professional Football League for more than five months due series of circumstances that the administrators have claimed to be unforeseen circumstances. Another team from Nigeria that suffered an early exit from CAF champions league was Kano Pillar who many had rated so high but lost on aggregate to Ashanti Kotoko from Ghana after playing a 2-2 draw at home before losing the returned leg in Accra Ghana.

After the sudden exit of two out of four Nigeria clubs from both CAF champions league and CAF confederation cup, the country hope now rested on the two times CAF champions league winners Enyimba International and Enugu Rangers, both teams playing the CAF confederation cup. While the Enugu Rangers played their first leg of the final round of qualifier against ASC Kara of Togo in a match that ended 2-1 in favour of the ASC Kara forth night ago, the second leg in the city of Enugu was a delight to watch especially with the recent defeat the Nigeria chan eagles suffered in the hands of the Hawks of Togo last month, the revenge was perfectly executed as Enugu Rangers score all important goal to send the match on 2-2 aggregate but Rangers qualify to the group stage thanks to the away goal they scored during the first leg played forth night ago.

While Enugu Rangers were playing their match against the ASC Kara, two times African champions Enyimba had already booked their place in the next round after defeating TS Galaxy 1-2 in south Africa to win on 4-1 aggregate. Enyimba had won the first leg 2-0 in Aba forth night ago and were book maker favourite to go through and they did just that perfectly. With this, Nigeria will be represented by two club sides in CAF confederation group stage.
