"Everyone's Awakening is different."
He could hear his mother's words so clearly, but wished he could slap his younger self to make him pay attention. He couldn't remember what else she had said after that. He had stopped listening because, like all teenagers, he had thought he knew better. Now he needed those words more than ever.
He remembered how she described her own Awakening; hers had been a slow, steady trickle of power that had spread through her mind and body, warming her soul and bringing her talents for mending to their height. Then again, she had Awakened when she was 19 years old, well within the normal age range.
His was, indeed, different. He was nearly 30 years old and had long since given up hope of inheriting any magic from his parents. And the magic which had gently stirred within his mother was, instead, threatening to tear his body to shreds. It tore through his mind and overwhelmed his senses as he writhed in agony on the floor of his kitchen.
He regretted ever wishing for his Awakening, no matter the cost.

Very interesting, since we use to say "well done" here and there..I don't know what to use to say "well done" when I'm really convinced about it.. and here I am ;-) It could be part of a book.
Thank you! The more I participate in these freewrites, the more confidence I gain regarding my writing. I wonder if someday I'll have the confidence to try actually writing a whole book, haha. :-)
Really enjoyed reading this one :) Awesome story, well done!

I remember thinking to myself a while back, "My spiritual awakening feels like a hangover". This story reminded me of that thought.
We're all so good at beginnings! Now we all need to figure out what happens NEXT!
