Why Magic the Gathering is the ultimate game? Super cool stats and introduction to THE game! 🤩

in #game8 years ago (edited)

Welcome Steemians and Steemers!
After a burst of joy writing my first article, I want to start talking about a great passion I have since I was 10.
So without further ado, let's dive into this.

I have to deeply thank @ethandsmith for helping me understanding the most out of Steemit (even if there is so much going on!). I found great use of his tips for creating high quality contents. Hope this is one of those contents!

Magic is a card game which usually features the battle between 2 (or more) players, which are wizards named "planeswalker". The weapons to defeat your opponent are spells, artifacts, powerful creature and incredible sorceries which are all linked in the "multiverse", which is the combination of all planes.

"One in a million is born with the spark to become a Planeswalker. Even fewer realize their potential."

Being a Collectible Card Game, the complexity and depth grow every year with brand new cards printed out. It's indeed the most complex card game ever! Each player starts with 20 life points and "usually" victory is achieved crushing opponent's life points to 0.

There are alternative methods of winning which add layers of diversity to the game! Some of those are, but not limited too:

  1. Getting a player to 10 poison counters
  2. Complete certain "task" (state based actions, like Battle of Wits
  3. Mill your opponent library, making him impossible to draw cards!

The colors of the spells are 5, White (W), Blue (U), Red (R), Black (B) and Green (G).
This particular arrangement of colors is the "Color wheel" and is one of the most representative design from the creator of the game, Richard Garfield.

The idea behind the color wheel is that every color should provide some strength and some weakness, so each one is the best in certain areas of magic and worst in other. It helps have really different decks of cards which can be personalized based on own choices.

Each color represents some values and ideas, while it is also linked with other one to create tribe (or guild, like WU is the Azorious Senate). Each of WURBG has individual strengths and weakness, as well as its own flavor, abilities and individual mechanics.

White is the color of Peace and Order. The symbol is the sun
Blue is the color of Intelligence and Curiosity. The symbol is a drop of water
Red is the color of Impulse and Destruction. The symbol is a fireball
Black is the color of Death and Selfishness. The symbol is a skull
Green is the color of Nature and Strenght. The symbol is a a tree

Those are just some of the primary concept of Magic, I will explore the basics of the game and have in mind an article about Magic, poker, chess and Starcraft as well.

Do you already play Magic? Are you intrigued by it?

The best part I can tell, it's the community feeling. You became part of something bigger and better, you get to travel, you solve problems and you make friends while having fun!

If you liked this content or you feel it's a quality one, feel free to resteem or help me spread it through steemit. Loving the platform and willing to learn the most I can about it!

I couldn't even add up how much money I've spent on Magic over the years. I recently left the game and got rid of my cards- I'm still tempted to go back from time to time, though.

It's so much time and money consuming, but it's really worth from a social and happiness point-of-view.
Hope you have enjoyed my article!

Wow!!!! and NOW I understand the basics of this game hahahahaha

Look at the gloves on the hand of the person in the video! hahahaha they treat these cards with extra care, and now i know why :)

I loved to see how passionate you are about this - your whole post exudes your excitement! :)

I'm so glad that I'm following you - i think all of your posts might be this intriguing!!!!! well done!

I really enjoyed this article! I know several people who play Magic often, but I've never bothered to learn what it's about. I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts about the game and how it works!

Maybe I'll even start playing myself! Keep up the good work!

Thank so much Ethan! And if you'll play one day I'll gladly teach you!

You are doing an amazing job on your posts! The formatting looks great. The content was presented in an easy way so that someone like me (who has only played once) was able to understand. Looking forward to your next one!

Thanks! I am really glad to be on the right path for steemit!

I upvoted and followed you. Do the same for me and we could Help Each other earn...

Beautiful description of Magic the gathering! I am another old player, I started playing during original Mirrodin set. :D Also I completely agree that mtg is the ultimate game designed. Number of possibilities and amount of creativity it allows is unmatched in game design!

Thanks so much! @tripdespider
Glad you appreciate it, I saw a "nice niche" of good contents about Magic and I want to really write my best about it! Stay tuned for more 😁

Welcome to Steem(it)! Also have a great love for MTG. Have an account @steemtg for posting about MTG and possibly incorporating some sort of business model or just sharing articles and information if you and others would be interested. Have an MTGO account named steemtg as well that I thought about using to exchange cards too as well as a bitshares asset MTGOTIX that could be a crypto that equals one MTGO TIX. Feel free to contact me on steemit.chat.

Hi @virtualgrowth, I tried reach you out on steemit.chat
I am on Discord too with BaFI as name, reach me out in the way you prefer so we can have a talk!

This game is a classic and I don't think it will be going anywhere any time soon. I love the artwork on the cards, just never did get into it myself because it was so time consuming. Enjoy the concept though. Great post. Thank you.

Thanks so much @mental-extract! I really appreciate your words, it's my first post after the introduction.
I think it's really a classic as well, and unfortunately, I have to agree about the time consuming aspect.
If you want to pick up the basics or see more, follow my updates!

Thanks again from bottom of my heart for your appreciation 😁

Of course fellow Steemian. Cheers!

Hello! I didn't know that there were more Magic players here. Was considering recruiting people to create a MTG community on steemit haha

Glad that you play Magic too! @tadstrange.
I'll start discussing basics aspect of the game, and will follow with more detailed stuff like matchups, deck tech and such!
Which formats do you play?
I am mainly a Legacy player!

I am mainly an EDH player. More political, less expensive. I am also interested in the financial/business aspect of MTG..

I have a deep collection if that can helps! My juiciest cards rae Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and Foil Mercadian Masque Rishadan Port, which is my favorite card ever!

Looking good. Let's get some games going on MTGO!

Mac user here, we can use Cockatrice tho! Thanks!

This article was interesting, @bafi! I knew nothing of this game before reading your article. One thing I would suggest is to also give the full names when using acronyms (such as WOTC). People like myself, who are not gamers, are not familiar with the terms you might consider obvious.

Watching that video was quite fun, and it gave me a good idea of what the cards contain. It was a good idea to include it.

Thanks for joining my Discord Server, and sharing this link with me.
Cheers!

Thank you so much for your comment! I will follow the acronyms suggestion, it's really a great advice.
Will be glad to be part of your community!
Cheers @mitneb 🍻
