There is an issue that I am quite torn about not because it is illegal but morally I think it sets a bad precedent and that is allowing streaming of gambling on Twitch.tv. If you dont know about twitch, they basically allow users to stream themselves primarily playing various video games to a following. What you play is completely up to you as long as it follows guidelines like no nudity or porn games ect. However one section that has slipped through the cracks is people streaming themselves gambling large amounts of money on various websites.

The problem is many fold, but primarily you are giving the power to deceive the audience to the streamer who is often times doing just that. While many people tune in to see what they think is a person betting a large amount of money on slots at the casino, similar to when people at an actual casino gather around someone throwing around large amounts. Many of these people are young children or someone who doesnt realize what is going on. I would say 9/10 of these streamers are faking things.
This stream is a type of publicity scam to drum up new members for the website, often misleading them on how much they can actually win. This is how the scam itself works. The streamer isnt actually risking any money, the website is giving it all to him for free so he can stream and bring in new users. While he wont be able to keep what he earns, the website will usually pay him either a flat fee or money based on the amount of affiliates he brings in. The huge problem is sometimes the website will give the streamer an instanced version of the site or game which has increased odds, misleading people who sign up and play.

The misleading by the websites is the real problem I have and ultimately twitch cracked down on other similar gambling genres in the past. However they still allow games that are obviously rigged to continue to stream. If you have ever been to a casino and watched someone play the slot machines, you realize how low the chance of actually winning and how quickly the money they go there with is eaten up. Casinos want people to go towards the slot machines because they make the most amount of money. Misleading potential children who will go to the website and put in money from their parents credit card is the real issue here.
Although twitch does have a large audience of adults watching, it still has a huge audience of children and I would argue they are the ones targeted by these gambling channels. They are the ones that might lack the skepticism to say its bullshit and believe these people are really risking $100 a spin and going for hours at a time. I think allowing them to be preyed on in this matter is a bit heinous and I also think that twitch should have cracked down on it a long time ago. The last thing we need is introducing young minds to gambling.

Seems like you have done your homework. I actualy never thought about that. For people of very young age it’s very tempting and if they have an easy access to a credit card, this could end as a disaster. Once they realize it’s not what they thought it would be, it’s already too late. And you said it perfectly “The last thing we need is introducing young minds to gambling.”
Im all for gambling but not for people at such a young age that usually wont make rational decisions. Young people arent rational and many times this is the targeted audience.
Many commercial sites place pornographic images, as they place banners for semi-nude women, do you wonder why they do so? .... to turn attention to a commercial advertisement and bring in more consumers only, while using a bad way in that, thank you for your excellent ideas @calaber24p
If they can't do porn and violence. Which are legal under most laws anyway why would gambling be allowed. Well written post. And I think I feel this should stop.
I agree with this. I have personally watched gambling on Twitch and always suspected collusion and lies.
Sodapoppin for one has these huge streams with 20k viewers and sometimes wins $10k on stream playing blackjack. Granted, he loses the $10k back just as often...but it is a win win for him and the casino. He gets more viewers and YouTube views, and the casino gets tons of exposure and advertising.
People might just watch the stream where he wins, and think wow, this is easy money. Then get raped at the tables when they actually play.
It should be banned...exposing teenagers to gambling before they know what it all means is dangerous. We don't want to lead them down the wrong paths.
Thanks for sharing.
I am sick and tired of people like you trying to dictate what other people say or do.
Im sick and tired of irrational people who cant sit down and have a calm conversation about something.
Nice your post
Thanks information
Nice post......
Agreed :) It's better just to play video games and stream them on Twitch. Also, you can earn $$$ to buy games by watching Twitch or streaming video game play on Twitch, using Refereum. The platform will reward you with tokens for watching other people play or streaming yourself, and with them, you can buy games like Playersunknown's Battleground.
Thanks for this gaming.... post sharing....
i appreciate this technology. keep it up dear....
well i dont think so they should let people do gambling on steemit
Thanks for this info. I was wondering how people cash out. Online surveys for cash got me too. :). Joy
