You are each level's big bad enemy in The Last Boss

The Last Boss indie game review

Heavily inspired by both classic beat'em'up and shoot'em'up games alike, The Last Boss offers you the chance of being an ancient evil, a frenzied robot or even an alien! There are six boss characters to pick, but you have to unlock each one of them by clearing their level on the Hard difficulty. This is actually brilliant, because you're supposed to start at easy or normal mode each time, then kill some players so you can get decent upgrades.

Because you start off with nothing but your basic attack, you really feel like you're an easy mode boss yourself. But when you have overpowered abilities, hard mode is really descriptive of what you can do. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'd have a lot of trouble dealing with these evil characters if I were the player instead. But nevertheless, all bosses are very unique, making them fun to play with until you clear the game, which took me nearly two hours.

The Necromancer is a really good example of how each big bad is unique. You can't even attack as him. All you do is summon your minions, which you have to do so wisely when you haven't gotten all your skills yet. I'd personally roam to the far side of the screen, summon a skeleton, then run away to the other side and repeat until the players are dead. Luckily for me, those are not the brightest player examples, as they choose to go for a minion instead of me if there one up.

There is a secret unlockable boss which I'm going to spoil here for you. It is a cursed human who can go into a berserker frenzy or even take the shape of a werewolf! Combined with his stun ability, he is the cruelest of all characters, but also the hardest one to kill players at first, because of his complete lack of regeneration powers. It will take you a while longer to get everything with him. Did I mention you have to beat a set of two players a total of five times? As if they had continues!

It was because of the Fighting Game Sale taking place on Steam that I could run into this great little game made by who seems to be a solo developer. I tried a pirate copy for a bit, but it felt great as early as 2 bosses into the game, so I could not help but pick up a copy on Steam since it's on a great sale.

Thanks for mentioning me for this, but I wish you limit these mentions to once a week or (if more than once) articles you think I might be really interested in.

I love 2D beat-em' up games!

Me too, they're the best. My highest recommendation is Fight'n'Rage.
