I'm one of those people who likes to repeat books I've read, especially if I like the book. Just like with movies. If I like it, then I watch it two or three more times. I want to make sure that nothing is overlooked because sometimes when we watch, there is a small distraction that causes us to lose focus and lose some of the moment in the movie.

Funnily enough, that's what I experienced when I played The Pillars of the Earth. Game made by Daedalic Entertainment developers is a point and click adventure that tells the story of wartime struggle in the 12th century. The story is taken directly from the Ken Folletts novel of the same title, which has achieved the most worldwide sales.

English In the 12th Century

At The Pillars of the Earth, you will get a story taken from the perspective of some characters. At first, you will see the world through the eyes of a stone craftsman named Jack. Then the story develops and you'll get to know Philip, a pastor. And lastly, you can see the world of The Pillars of the Earth through the eyes of a noblewoman named Aliena.

The story on The Pillars of the Earth is located in England, where players will meet the story of King Henry I who died without an heir. There are two people who can replace him. The first is the male cousin of King Henry, or the second, the daughter of King Henry I himself. It is not easy to determine the heirs, and therefore the chaos that eventually culminates into a war.

The funny thing is that instead of continuing to talk about general issues such as how the battle takes place as the core of its main story, The Pillars of the Earth actually sometimes discusses each character in more depth. This is good of course, because then, the player in knowing the characters he plays more closely.

Be Careful In Making Decisions

The Pillars of the Earth also picks up the elements you get in Telltale's game, where the options given to you will have an effect in the story going forward. Compared to his novel, then obviously this experience is better. In the novel, you will have only one story according to the author. But here, you can feel it yourself through the story of each character.

Any such decision, as small and large as anything, is heavy because the story will change according to the choices made. It makes me as a special feel player, because it can change the story according to what I want.

Not Without Disability

The voice of the actor is unquestionable. The important character on The Pillars of the Earth has a real actor behind his voice, so for shrewdness in delivering the story, it's obviously the result. Coupled with dark graphics, adding to the impression that indeed the story is in the 12th century.

But the sound sometimes still felt slow. There were a few moments where his voice was late when the video story was already running. Indeed, it does not make this game so can not be played, but for a game that is almost filled with stories, the technical errors are quite disturbing.

Worse yet, I can not access the menu when there is a dialog of characters. So when I missed some conversation because of the voice that is too small, I can not raise the voice right then and there.

Conclusion

For those of you who are patient, you will find a good story about wars, self-discovery, and confidence in The Pillars of the Earth. But if you are not a patient person, then you will not get anything from this game except boredom alone.

Just like point and click games that always tell the story with a slow phase, your experience playing The Pillars of the Earth will also find the same thing. Sometimes the story seems old. But that's not without reason. In order for you, as a player to be well aware and understand the story of The Pillars of the Earth.

Unfortunately for some people, this is precisely considered a long-winded storytelling, so before they try, they give up first. Obviously, this one game is not for you.

Behind the story with the slow phase, there is a background music that is incredible. I love the background music presented by The Pillars of the Earth throughout the game. Not just background music that stands out here. Even more powerful, the sound of the actor is very well made. No wonder given that the developer uses a real actor here.

The story certainly has no doubt. I enjoy every minute of it. I love the deep story and The Pillars of the Earth managed to deliver it. What I do really does have an impact in the development of the story in the game. After that, sometimes I want to repeat it again to find out what will happen if I choose to make another decision. Rarely can a game have a real-life story when I'm done playing it. And The Pillars of the Earth did it.
