It's a HUGE success on Steam. It has caught the attention of the console industry giants. What is it? It's Battlegrounds, and it's Micro$oft with another announcement of an "exclusive" game. Both $ony and Micro$oft (and Nintendo) have ruined the term "exclusive." To them, the term just means, "for right now so I can grab some more money from your hardware sales."
When they create these contracts, MS and Sony ensure that they are very particular about what the companies are allowed to say. In the case of Battlegrounds, let's just say that the developers are saying that it will "launch exclusively on consoles for the Xbox One" but that leaves it to mean "launch exclusive" and not just a true one.
The thing that makes this scenario all the more confusing is that MS is publishing the game. That means it would be easier to assume that it will only be released for the Xbox One, but let's look closer. Just because PUBG has a MS as its publisher for the Xbox One, doesn't mean they can't release it for the PS4 with a different publisher, or that MS won't be the publisher. Remember, Minecraft is published by different publishers on Xbox and PS4.
Also, the game is already out so they are careful to say "console exclusives" several times. This is not a true exclusive, and should not be marketed as such since it's already out on the PC. The way MS and Sony through around the term, if they were in a relationship, they would tell their significant other "we are freshly exclusive and I'm not seeing anyone else" but that just means until the "fresh" period is over. Their loved one would be heartbroken when they found out that MS and Sony had been cheating on them after a few months.
I'm calling it now, PUBG will be on the PS4, and maybe even the Switch. What are your thoughts?
