Dragon Warrior
Back when I was around ten years old, the NES was king, and I was lucky enough to have a neighbor who owned the holy trinity of RPGs: Dragon Warrior 1, 2, and 3, but back then, I didn't know it..
I remember spending countless afternoons over there, absolutely glued to the first game. But, like many kids playing unforgiving 8-bit RPGs, I played a lot, but I never actually beat it. Because I couldn't conquer the first one, I never let myself move on to the sequels.
My memories of Dragon Warrior 2 & 3 are much hazier. I have vague recollections of watching my neighbor play them, or perhaps I rented them from the local video store. I even recall a few distinct moments sitting in a game shop that had a "pay $2 to play for an hour" setup, frantically trying to make progress before my time ran out. While the details of the sequels are blurry, my love for that first game remains crystal clear.
Switch - Dragon Quest XI
A few years ago, I tried to rekindle that flame. I picked up Dragon Quest XI on the Switch, fully intending to dive back into the world. I played for a few hours... and then life happened. I got distracted, the console gathered dust, and the hero was left waiting in the prologue.
Nostalgia hits again
But that changed last week. I heard the news that Dragon Quest I & II have received a stunning HD-2D remake for the Switch, and I realized I completely missed that Dragon Quest III had already been given the same treatment.
Suddenly, the nostalgia is back in full force. I have two new "must-buy" games on my list, but I need to earn them first. I’ve set myself a challenge: I have until this Friday to finally finish Dragon Quest XI. If I can roll credits on the modern masterpiece, I’ll reward myself with the remakes of the classics.
Let’s see if I can finish what I started thirty some years ago. Wish me luck! ^_^

I love the little pokeballs on your controllers!
