Detroit: Become Human Goes Gold, Demo Released

In Thirty One days, Detroit: Become Human releases. A demo for the game has released by way of the PlayStation Store, and is available now. The demo allows you to play through the game's first scene, which has been revealed in previous trailers.

You enter the game as Connor, an Android with the Detroit police department. You're called to the scene of a hostage situation, and its your objective to save the hostage.

Like most Quantic Dream games, there are numerous ways in which the story can unfold, and there's plenty of things to see and do. The "investigation mechanics" lets you use your superior powers of sight, smell, and analysis to examine evidence, objects and other things in the game world to come up with reproductions of what led to the present moment.

You're also given some ethical choices as an Android, with one early example being a fish limping around, outside of its aquarium tank. Do you save it, or let it die? Detroit: Become Human promises to be full of such small, yet really meaninfgul choices.

This is a game that I've been looking forward to for a long time, and is one of the reasons to own a PlayStation 4. While not everyone is a fan of the story telling methods that Quantic Dream utilise, they're exceptional at plying their craft, and the demo of their latest effort suggests that the game will offer replay value; as well some ... interesting gimmicks.

One of those gimmicks is Amazon Alexa integration...

From the PlayStation blog:

As part of the Hostage demo experience, there’s also an extended Alexa Skill! Properly named “CyberLife,” the Alexa Skill will provide you guidance and additional intel about this near future android filled world. As you take on the role of Connor, a hostage negotiator android sent to take control of this high-stakes situation, the CyberLife Skill will help guide you in your decision making throughout the investigation process, while giving you a deeper look at the various characters involved within the Hostage demo. It will also give you insights on how you can best alter your decision within the experience that could result in a different ending outcome.

I wonder if we'll see Amazon Alexa devices thoughtfully sprinkled throughout the game. It is interesting that there appears to be this partnership with the game, given that you'd think Sony would be all in on the smart speaker idea, being producers of reasonable, consumer bluetooth equipment. (and some exceptional acoustic equipment, too)

The game has now gone "Gold" which means that it will be entering mass production, in preparation for its Retail Release in just over a month. The demo weighs in at a lean 2.9GB. It is definitely worth downloading.

The verdict on this title won't be known until later this year, when the game launches in May. I'll be picking up a copy upon release, and you can expect to find a thorough review published right here once the game is completed, and my thoughts have been considered.

Looking cool game

Thanks for the super info, I've been waiting a long time for the game. Didn't know a demo was planned for that. So I can sweeten the remaining waiting time and increase my anticipation.

Quantic Dream gets a lot of criticism, but so far I just loved each of their games. Beyond two souls was great too. There is hardly any other developer studio that presents their stories so well and takes the player emotionally with them.
