This year I decided that weeding my garden for hours every weekend was a little too much to handle, so I am growing most of my vegetables in containers. As well as one small bed area. These potatoes are being grown in an old whisky barrel.

The snow peas are coming along nicely and I have already had my first harvest!

Of course I have been enjoying some spinach, although we have been having some 80+ degree weather which could be the end of my spinach.

For several weeks I have been harvesting the lettuce.

Here is some of my lettuce out in the garden. Notice the cage to protect from the critters that roam the yard at night.

My cabbage is coming along nicely, another week or so and I will be enjoying some slaw!

What else? This is my variation of a Hugel Mound. I had a large pine tree come down in an ice storm a few years ago. It took me weeks to cut it up and the logs have just been sitting in the woods. That same ice storm also took down a persimmon tree. So I decided to roll some of the logs into the garden to form a border. I put some of the smaller persimmon logs in the middle and covered with top soil.

I have cucumbers and peppers growing in the mound. It is my hope that the cucumber will vine down the side of the logs. As for the peppers, it is my hope that the decaying logs underneath with provide heat for the roots and nutrients. It is an experiment, who knows if it will work.

What else?

The broccoli is coming along nicely. If we keep getting these warmer days I might have to move these to a shaded part of the garden.

I am growing some tomatoes in a small bed. And this morning look what I found.

First Fruits!

Not huge but it is the first tomato of the season.

So far, I have harvested lettuce, peas, and a TOMATO!

What are you growing this year? What have you harvested so far? Let me know in the comments.

Peace out!
