I AM FINALLY GETTING MY SEEDLINGS STARTED!

in #gardening8 years ago

This has got to be one of my favorite things to do!

Seriously, to take tiny little seeds and somehow feed an entire family for months off of what they produce is incredible! I absolutely love it! However, life can get busy, and tasks like this can be hard to fit in some times. I'm getting it done though!

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

From peppers and tomatoes to kiwanos and noodle beans, @papa-pepper loves to grow! Originally, I got into gardening because I heard that you could get free food, and that hasn't changed! Being connected to your food supply is also a huge bonus, and it is not something that we take lightly.

Personally, I do not like to plant multiple seeds into the same cell of a planting tray and then have to kill the extra ones that sprout. Somehow, it just seems wrong to me. That's why I use a method where I place the seeds in moist paper towel to germinate them. Then, whichever seeds actually sprout get their own spot in the soil, and no one has to die in the process.

Back in Wisconsin I would start my pepper seeds first, often sometime between the end of January and mid-February. Then, I would slowly work my way through the rest of the plants. While I certainly do have a longer growing season down here in Arkansas, I still like to get some started indoors ahead of time. However, I'm running behind this year with all that is going on. I do have some sprouted though, and more on the way, so at least I am making progress.

Besides the regular and also strange foods that we like to grow, we also enjoy a variety of herbs. While the medicinal ones sure do have their place, we also like to grow a some for teas or seasonings. In the photo above is some tiny little German Chamomile plants sprouting.

I've got a lot left to plant this year, but I'm happy to be started, even if it is a little later than I'd like. As far as some new ones for this year that I've already got sprouted, Koren Goji Berries are a special one for us. Since they supposedly do better in our area than Chinese Goji Berries, and since they are perennials (which means that they will be back for years to come once they get started) we are happy to be starting many new ones from seed. I have a few plants that I got last year too, but it is always exciting to start new ones from seed. Are there any new plants that you are growing this year? Do you have any of your seeds planted already?

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Until next time…

Great job! It is about being connected with your food. The only growing I’ve done is sprouting. Love seeing sunflower seeds grow and getting to eat them in a week!

Pretty good

this is great @papa-pepper,
I am very impressed with your words and I will remember forever.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

That's a very profound word for me @papa-pepper.

Better late than never indeed. But I get it. I always want to do so many things but my days are too short! Really want to start growing more foods too but it is so hard to find planting-potting material here and the soil is so poor and rocky. Happy growing!

Yeah, we've got a lot of work to do in building up our "soil" here too, but we will be working on it!

wow..i.love also gardening..thanks for sharing..this post..

wow. what plants are my friends, very fertile plant I am very amazed to see her friend. friend please help me.

Good job my friend

Nice! How fast will a "Goji Berrie plant" grow?
This will be interesting to follow.

I love gardening...thanks for shring...

Glad to hear I am not the only one getting a late start. I am in zone 7 and just planted potatoe starts outside yesterday, fingers crossed. I am starting jalapeño, habanero, and Thai chile peppers from seed today. I think I will have to start tomatoes from purchased starters, I think it's too late for tomatoes.

You will be blessed to see them growing everyday.

Very interesting planting techniques such crops, such as hydroponic techniques. Limited land is not a problem, intention to plant this extraordinary.

NICE POST ..............GARDENING IS BEAUTIFUL THINK......

@papa-pepper for President!
Wow, I just love the way you're so versatile.
This is an amazing growth

I feel gardening requires experience, but I am very impatient to have to wait for the seeds to grow with difficulty when I water it. but you have the ability and experience for it @papa-pepper

Thank you friend all

I think I already mentioned I live in an apartment building on the 4th floor, but I have plans to build a small deck greenhouse. I love growing things, and when you can eat what you grow, thats GREAT! my garden will be small, but it will be fun to do, at least for me! Happy Gardening!

Plant babies! Looking great! I've got some bell peppers started via hydroponics, and am hoping to harden them soon to transplant outside. I have zero experience with gardening! Wish me luck!

Better late than never! I have started seeds for our major growing season which is the rainy season. Dry season this year has been brutal to my plants. Even watering every day, it's just not the same as a good rain.

The Lord knew this, that's why he said our faith could be as small as a mustard seed.
Because if it germinated, it would sprout out and grow to big, productive and nourishing things . That would affect societies and the world at large.

Well done @papa-pepper, i love your method of planting those seedlings. At least, they different from what we have over here.

Growing seed is like having a baby.watch him grow everyday, give him what he needs..water,sunlight,proper care from a loving hand ✋ of @papa-pepper

That is great. How many seedlings do you do a season? We started ours around a month ago but I am in North FL and I have a small greenhouse. We actually grow most year around. It is harder to grow in the middle of summer then it is in winter here. Hope you have a great growing season.

I also like this post, a post full of benefits @papa-pepper

I just got all of my seeds in the mail on Friday, and I plan on getting them started tomorrow. This is the latest I've ever been! I'm just hoping everything has time to produce.

PoS, proof of seedlings. I dig it.

We started planting today too! Our first garden. My first since high school, and a first for my kids. We're excited, and look forward to enriching our lives and community using the permaculture ethics.

Never to late, dear @papa-pepper!

I wish you a lot of fun during the year and a great harvest as well!

Yaaay! I’ve done a couple of tomato trays and am doing a few more for my neighbor. I love this time of year 🤗

I love this time of year too! Let's go, let's grow!

I have so many in my kitchen... laundry room.. office/third bedroom and my indoor grow tent right now. I am running out of room and I just heard over the weekend that we are expecting some snow this week... really Ma Nature, really?

Goji- man oh man... I had six seeds last year and none survived my sowing. Upset me.. but if I find more I will prevail and be the Goji Berry Queen... one day, maybe- lol

Would you like some Korean Goji Berry seeds? I think I still have extra.... or I could just send you a whole plant if you want... seriously

I'm too began to grow up seedling of tomatoes, peppers, melons and s.o.
But I started my experience earlier, nearly month ago or even more.
