NOW PAPA-PEPPER IS BUYING FLOWERS?

What gives?

Trust me guys, it's not what you think! I have my reasons!

WHY BUY?

Okay, you can see a pretty good cartload there, so I'll let you in on my reasons. I know that propagating plants is cheaper than purchasing them and that growing your own from seed is cheaper than buying seedlings from the greenhouse or garden store. However, cost isn't everything, now is it?

Well, the purchase price certainly did have something to do with it. At the moment I've got limited space, so I can only start limited numbers of seedlings. I'm trying to rotate through things and get them moving from seed, to seedling, to planted in the garden as best as I can, but I'm expanding the prepared garden area as I go too, so it's a lot of effort. To get five plants for fifty cents is only a dime a plant, so that helps out, especially since these are ready to plant.

You may also know that I prefer to grow food over ornamental plants, but this one has more purpose than just looking pretty. You see, this is a Marigold, and that is a special species of flower with well known pest repelling properties. As always, everything is disputable and many researchers would beg to differ, but I still like to grow these anyway.

The reduced price was because a lot of these "six packs" were more like "five packs" or even "four packs" since some of the flower seedlings had died. Also, some were broken or damaged, but the I think that the plants will live on, they're just tough like that. Since we have quite a large garden area, we've got room for some flowers anyway, and the large, bright flowers should help attract pollinators to the garden too!

Like all of the @little-peppers, Red-Pepper likes to help out with everything that we've got going on. She was my marigold planting helper, and enjoyed the task. I'm sure it'll be exciting for her to watch "her flowers" (AKA the ones that she planted) grow this season. In fact, we all will! Do any of you grow marigolds?

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Awesome! I bought a rose plant from Walmart the other day for 3 cents. Hell yeah discount plants!

Wow! Now that is a discount! Great buy!

I see
I know quite a bunch of pest repellant plants over here as well.
As you said though, science hasn't proven a lot of them - still I have all the proof I need.

I've heard that they can be pest repellents, but I can't say for sure. I ended up putting chicken wire around my raised beds. Otherwise the rabbits would just feast on whatever I had there.

The price isn't always the final criterion for me. I was trying to get my tomato plants to grow, but something happened and I lost them. I saw a plant at the store for $2 and bought it. I know I'll get more than $2 worth of tomatoes off it and it's fun to see it grow as the spring and summer progress.

this very beautiful flower, in our place very much this flower plant, in our place the name of this flower of gold flower.

What a nice choice of flowering plant to grow.
I love this plant in paeticular since its has a repelling properties for insects.
But to your question sir.' Do u grow marigold'?
No i dont grow marigold.
But if iI have the means, then I dont think anything will stop me not to grow them.
Thanks for the post @papa-pepper

It's cool doing agriculture and same time crypto cause agriculture and crypto is the faster way of making money.

I love flowers. Your reason looks reasonable. Great creativity

I have to buy some plants too. I live in the northern tier and peppers do not like to start on my property so I have to buy them. Tomatoes are my other purchase though I always have tons of volunteers to transplant they take a long time to produce.

Time economy is a very important consideration on the farm and in life.

I too grow marigold and I have three in a pot on the window ledge. They are really good at repelling mosquitoes and other insects. Additionally, they are easy to maintain and care for. Good luck with your marigold :)

Glad I found your profile! Lots of interesting stuff!

I try. Life is interesting, so I live it and share it. Thanks!

I love marigolds, they are so pretty, they smell good and they are so easy to grow. Thank you for rescuing them from the store! I tell my husband if there is any green on the plant bring it home and I'll make it grow! Most times this is true.

Marigolds are great borders, and I'm not sure if they get rid of the bugs, but the plants around them always do well. My marigolds got so big that the blooms were too heavy and the plants split in half. They still bloomed until the end of the season!

Getting seeds from them is simple too. At the end of the season those little flowers will give you next years plants, so you really did get a great deal! So glad you have help in the garden! Your dirt is so dark. It looks wonderful.

if there is any green on the plant bring it home and I'll make it grow! Most times this is true.

I hear you! That's how I feel about it!

We like to grow as many as we can around the house to discourage the mosquitoes. We also grow mint to discourage ants from coming into the house and lavendar to keep the scorpions from getting to close. I don't mind as long as they are not in the house! LOL

Gardening it' s very relaxing also if i am not good at it, by the way good pics and good idea involv children in activities like gardening..

6FBBF03C-ECF6-4813-A4FB-845BFC221271.jpegI’ve spent a lot of time in my garden these past few days I haven’t got any marigolds but they are nice, I’ve been repotting my chilli plants. Cheers mike

I love flowers too.nice job @papa-pepper

That makes good sense. I like marigolds. I didn't know they where pest repellents but my parents always grew them and they had a vegetable garden too.

thats a great deal! I hear that they ward off cats too..we just put some in recently also but not at 10 cents a piece - great find - should even attract bees too

And next year you won't have to buy them as you will have so many seeds! I shake the seeds of thedead flowers all over my garden.. love the suprise blooms and such a beneficial plant...
