In this post I am going to show you interesting aspects of color and the different meanings and even uses that people can give it in our daily lives.

Color for science is visual perspective and the way light reflects on surfaces and bounces off retinas, our brain being responsible for interpreting the nerve signals our eyes emit and transforming this response into colors, however, In this article I will not be based on scientific aspects , I want to analyze color from another perspective, more practical and interesting.

Colors that play a very important role in our lives, affect us directly or indirectly on a psychological level in our emotions, feelings, community ideas, give us sensations, have a symbolic value, that is, colors sometimes speak for themselves and they are present in all our life.

Colors have many specific meanings of how they are represented and how they are used. Among one of the uses of color, the following are specified:

a) Colors according to Art: < br>
In artistic expressions, color plays a relevant role because it is the architect of the composition of works of beautiful beauty, the artists rely on the use of the color wheel, which is a structure that allows visualizing the primary colors , secondary and tertiary.

• Primary Colors: They are represented by the basic and purest colors, these are yellow, red and blue.


• Secondary Colors: They come from the combination of two primary colors, these are orange (red + yellow), violet (red + blue) and green (blue + yellow).


• Tertiary colors: Don the product of the combination of a secondary color and a primary one, these cover oranges, greens and violets in different shades from lighter to darker, according to Only the primary color to be mixed.


b) The color used for health:

If you did not know the colors are used to perform therapies for some physical and mental ailments through chromotherapy, which uses the properties of colors to treat certain conditions of health.

In this therapy the colors should be placed in the specific places and at the appropriate times, since if you apply irresponsibly you can cause adverse reactions to those expected.

For chromotherapy The meaning of the colors are as follows:

• Orange: It is used to treat energy imbalances and kidney problems.

• Yellow: It is a detoxifying, purifying and antiseptic color.

• Network: It is used to facilitate blood circulation.

• Blue: It is soothing and balances sleep patterns.

• Violet: It is used to treat nervous problems and stress.

• Green: Color used for fertility and sexual problems.


c) Colors to balance the Chakras:

The chakras are energy centers that are located to the Throughout our entire body, they are represented by the colors of the rainbow and each of them plays an important role in the balance of our emotional body.

The chakras are represented by the following colors.

• Red: It is the Root chakra, located in the head, it represents clothing with security and survival. • Orange: Sacral Chakra, represents creativity, joy of living, connects with the emotional and sexual.

• Yellow: Solar Plexus Chakra, is related to intuition and beliefs.

• Green: Heart chakra, represents love, compassion and kindness.

• Blue: Throat Chakra, represents communication related.

• Indigo: Third Eye Chakra, represents the connection of body and mind and related to spiritual growth.

• Violet: Crown Chakra, is related to wisdom and connection to the universe.


d) Cultural Meaning of colors:

Colors play an important role and vary their meaning according to country, culture and beliefs, this point is broad, hence, I will only give an example of some colors.

• Pink: In western countries it represents romance, femininity, color used by girls, however in Belgium it is the color used by newborn boys; in Korea, it represents security, and for Hinduism, it means life and love.

• Blue: In Korea it is a color of mourning, in Belgium, it is the color used by newborn girls, in China it represents immortality, Latin America, hope and for the Jews holiness.

• Red: In western countries it symbolizes love and passion, in China it is used for mourning and marriages, in India it is synonymous with fertility and for the Jews, it represents without and sacrifice.

As friends see, the meaning of colors according to the country and its cultural aspects is very relative.


e) Liturgical colors: Some religions use particular colors for their religious celebrations, these symbolize characteristics of a specific time of the liturgical year The following colors are used in the Catholic Church:

• White : This color means paschal joy, light and life, it also represents purity and joy.

• Red: It is used to represent the gift of the Holy Spirit, which is the color of blood and fire.

• Green: Represents the youth of the Church, the resurgence of a new life. it is used for the offices and Masses of the «annual cycle».

• Purple: It is a sign of penance and austerity.

• Gold and silver: They are used in solemn ceremonies.

• Black: Represents mourning.

When I lived overseas I quickly realized that my perception of colors and the people’s’ perception who were from my host culture differed greatly. Thanks for sharing about some more differences that I did not know about.
