Gridcoin website has been update!

Hello, I'm Shmoogle Osukami

I'm a hobbyist website developer who has been working on the gridcoin.us website since around February this year.

Over the past month and a half there has been a flurry of work done to the website that has now hit a major milestone.

As of today, The Gridcoin website is now fully navigable on mobile devices. Mobile users will have access to the navigation menu and be able to reach all the pages you could reach on a desktop computer.

There has been a lot of work put into the site over the past 3 months.

We've replace the backend technology know as middleman with Jekyll. This allowed us to move the site from the old host to hosting the site directly on GitHub. The main benefits being, changes to the site are automatically deployed and visible to all within seconds. It also provides us with free cloud based hosting, Free SSL certification and much more.

I'd like to thank CyCy (on slack and discord) for doing the code work, I simply polished it off and persistently pestered people to get it done. =p

After this first major change the gloves were off, Changes came in hard and fast.

The next change was the Dynamic Version Number.
It's a simple JavaScript file that pulls the latest Gridcoin release version number from GitHub and also automatically links to the latest release on GitHub for getting download files.
This means we no longer have to manually update the site when a release is made. It's all dynamically updated. It's one less thing we have to worry about.

After that another major yet largely invisible change. I updated Bootstrap, the underlining library used to format and style the Gridcoin website. This laid the groundwork for fixing a lot of responsive issues making it hard for mobile users to navigate the site.
This change was followed by a large number of smaller fixes and general content updates to clean some oddities up and bring information such as the Whitelist and Solo Guides up to date.

This leads us with the most recent change. The removal of Now-UI (another underused styling library like bootstrap) and a total rewrite of the Navigation Bar.
This latest change fixes a long standing issue of mobile users being unable to navigate past the main page.
The Navigation bar is now fully responsive, allowing mobile users to view all the pages you could view on desktop.
It also bring with it some styling updates and tweaks throughout the site.

It's been a busy few months for the Gridcoin Website and we're not done yet.
We can now move forward onto update key content to make it easier to understand and digest. Removing outdated information and refining various parts of the site.

I'd like to thank everyone who has helped contribute in the past months, Your guidance and insight helped immensely. Shoutout to Barton, CyCy, RoboticMind, CM, IFroggz and many more who helped with testing, PR reviews and so much more.

Good to see the list of exchanges updated too, but what happened to the excellent Bisq ? GRC can be traded on the Bisq decentralised exchange.

We got removed from that exchange on Feb 18th of this year. https://github.com/bisq-network/bisq/pull/2434
Reason being, Insufficient trade volume.
