RE: Rocksmith: The Best Way to Learn Guitar?

in #guitar8 years ago (edited)

This is amazing to me.

I actually have rocksmith but I've played guitar long before I ever got it. I've found rocksmith to be hard for me because I think it uses a different part of my brain. I've played it maybe for 15 minutes the whole time I've had it.

I've learned with the "Dave Grohl method".

He said this about American Idol:

“It’s destroying the next generation of musicians! Musicians should go to a yard sale and buy an old fucking drum set and get in their garage and just suck. And get their friends to come in and they’ll suck, too. And then they’ll fucking start playing and they’ll have the best time they’ve ever had in their lives and then all of a sudden they’ll become Nirvana. Because that’s exactly what happened with Nirvana. Just a bunch of guys that had some shitty old instruments and they got together and started playing some noisy-ass shit, and they became the biggest band in the world. That can happen again! You don’t need a fucking computer or the Internet or The Voice or American Idol .”

I remember playing riffs for hours and just being awful. I got drunk with my friends and ate rockstar dreams for breakfast. We would play for hours. Over time we got a little a better.

Don't worry about "forgetting" lol. I think every player does that. I feel like the master of half songs.

Either way, it's awesome to see that you were inspired by a game. I wonder if this is the future of music. I implore you to try the Dave Grohl method lol. It helps you learn the beauty of music that can't be technically taught.

SteemOn.

By the way, I'm submitting this to RobinHood Whale group.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the advice. I think finding motivation to keep pushing in the beginning when your fingers hurt and you can't play three notes in a row without messing up is the hardest part, and rocksmith helps.

For the Dave Grohl's method it makes a lot of sense. In a way it was similar to what I did with Rocksmith - kept rocking for hours without guidance, being bad then slowly getting better. Only the time commitment for being a Rockstar is way too big, and being computer assisted helps a little.

Try Session Mode if you still have Rocksmith. You might really like it.

The beauty of music isn't easy to realize without live performance. When you get comfortable-ish go play an open mic!

I've played tons of shows and I still get nervous. Don't let that hold you back.

If you ever want to pick my brain on it hit me up in the chat. I might have to give rocksmith another shot.
