I love wigs I started wearing them when I was 18. The simple fact that I could change my length, color, and style in under a minute changed my life. I prefer to buy synthetic not just because its cheaper then human but because I change my wigs every few weeks.
One of the drawbacks of synthetic, as opposed to human hair, wigs is that they can be difficult to style. Fortunately, while hair irons may be a no-go for styling synthetic wigs, you can get great results by submerging your wig in boiling water.

Now since February I finally found a wig that I’m absolutely in love with. Unfortunately they do not sell my wig anywhere that I can find so i can’t buy another one. So I had to figure out a way to restore the beautiful curls it ones had!

Let’s Begin!

What you will need to do is begin to boil a pot full of water. Your pot size should depend on how big your extensions are. The size matters because you want to make sure the extensions get saturated fully into the water. No strand should be left behind!

You will also need a towel, comb or wig brush, shampoo and conditioner. Since this was a $20 wig I didn’t want to use my good shampoo and conditioner do I bought some for the 99cent store.

Once you boil your water place your wig in, Again, make sure all pieces of the extensions are soaking.

I used a meat grinder plastic thingy (lol I don’t know the name of it) to make sure my wig was submerged under the boiling water.

I let it sit for 10 mins, took the hair out added shampoo and washed it in the sink with lukewarm water.
(Sorry somehow didn’t get that part on camera)

I placed the hair back in the boiling water while adding Conditioner and stirred it to make sure it got all over the hair.

As you can see the hair was dirty from synthic hair products I had put in it over the course of 2 months. Boiling it helped get rid of that excess shine and dirt.

I left my wig in the boiling water for about 15 to 20 minutes. I used a kitchen utensil to remove the wig and placed it on a towel to dry . I folded the towel over and over to get any excess hair out of the wig for a faster drying process.9AE00279-69A6-4341-B060-6B48DA775920.jpeg4E38DE0B-117B-4242-8D2E-4D9273B09DFC.jpeg

I then detangled section after section of the wig because it was curly I did a light combing so I wouldn’t stretch the curls out to much.

I left the wig to dry.
8 hours later it was completely dry and here is the result of that.

The hair was much more softer and easier to style. So I was able to part it and twist curls together to get my final look!!!

It was a fun and interesting process but in the end I saved my favorite wig!!!
If you have tried this method or are thinking about doing so please ask me any questions you need to or tell me how you do your process!

That is certainly a creative way to fix a wig and it looks good too!

This sort of hair care is very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Wow. I can't believe that worked. I have to give it a try! 👏👏
