Sensodyne Repair & Protect Whitening Toothpaste

in #health6 years ago

Toothpaste is toothpaste, there is no difference! Right?

No, while I don't know how much toothpaste varies in general, I do know the effectiveness of Novamin, a product that used to be available in the US toothpastes and has been removed.

Novamin is a product that has been proven to re-mineralize your teeth more effectively than Sodium Fluoride.

So why is it not available in the US?

GSK is currently the only company in the US that sold products with Novamin. They received the Novamin technology in a $135 million trade acquisition deal. A few years ago they decided to stop selling it to consumers in all their products. Rumors suggest they were paid off by the Dental Industry or the fact it is more profitable to sell to dentists directly.

What exactly is Novamin?

"When exposed to water and saliva, NovaMin forms hydroxyapatite-like crystals that occlude exposed dentin tubules in teeth. Essentially, it compensates for damaged enamel by creating a temporary repair, both relieving tooth sensitivity and preventing new caries from forming in exposed tubules."

Novamin is sold worldwide very successfully

Not in the US anymore, but you can get it on Amazon! The UK version of the product contains Novamin and is relatively cheap when you buy 4 at a time.

But I don't have sensitive teeth

Neither do I, my dad did, he used this product for years. Do you want to have sensitive teeth? I use it as a preventative rather than a treatment.

There is a good article referenced in the quote above that has a good history of the product. The scientific paper referenced above is also a good resource on how effective it is against the standard product in US toothpastes.

Who knew toothpaste can be full of conspiracy theories right?

You can find the product on Amazon by this vendor. It is $22 for 4 tubes shipped from the UK to the US.

Does it contain fluoride?

Yes, as well as Novamin which is extremely effective.

Thanks for your quick reply. Then... No thanks... Fluoride is so bad for you. I make my own toothpaste now with coconut oil, kurkuma, colodial silver (a natural antibiotic) and peppermint oil. My teeth have never been so white and my tooth flesh never so healthy.

Wow, i do not live in the us and have never come across this Novamin desensitizing toothpaste. Although, i would have loved to experience a first hand use as sensitivity is one of the commonest causes of patients presentation to the dental clinic. I personally suspect probably there is a health risk the product posed to the users probably leading to its withdrawal from circulation as i gathered online that this novamin mimics the activity of high potency neuroleptics (antipsychotic drugs).
