Are you consuming too much coffee/caffeine ?

in #health7 years ago (edited)

Coffee has always been at the forefront of our lives and has a special place in our heart. With coffee we wake up, we have fun, we are consoled, we socialize ...

Lately I am spending lot of hours in front of my computer and drinking a lot of coffee’s so I had a concern about its relationship to my health. So I decided to make a little of my own research about it and came back with a pleasant result for those who love coffee or caffeine in general! We hear a lot about the antioxidants of coffee, the caffeine relationship with alertness, whether it's good for our health, also it’s consider like a nootropic (like NZT – 48? 😎) etc. And always there is the question :"How many coffees can I drink?". "How many coffees do good or at least do not hurt my health?" 😵

So here are my research findings about caffeine

The question, at least in terms of caffeine, has recently been answered by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). After thorough scrutiny of all the scientific studies done so far on caffeine, and after having put forward the draft decision in a public consultation, it came to a final decision which, to a certain extent, came to confirm what we have known so far . That is, for adults the uptake of caffeine up to 400mg / day from all sources is safe, with the exception of pregnancy and lactation in women where the intake is recommended to be limited to 200mg / day. But what does this mean practically?

EFSA Research result Page 3

The above safe limits apply to all sources of caffeine through beverages and food we consume, however in our country the basic source for adults is coffee, and much less tea, cocoa, chocolate, energy drinks and Cola refreshments. So, if someone is a coffee lover, they can drink 4-5 cups of coffee a day, since most coffees range from 60-100mg to caffeine content (depends of course on coffee and how heavy they are).

The lightest coffee in terms of caffeine is always Greek/Turkish coffee, while the highest content is filter coffee (and yet yes, the French has more caffeine than instant coffee, espresso, etc.). As for other beverages, energy drinks (those that give wings and super human powers 🏋 ...) have almost the same amount as a cup of coffee, black tea has about half the caffeine content, colas are one-third of a cup of coffee Other beverages, eg orange juice, have no caffeine), and black chocolate about 40-50mg in the 100-gram plate.

And if you are looking for more detail, you can see more in detail how much caffeine contains each coffee (but remember that everything depends on how it is made and how much we want it) and the other sources of caffeine:

Filter coffee: ~ 100mg / cup 200ml
Instant coffee: ~ 80mg / cup 200ml
Espresso / cappuccino: ~ 80mg / cup 60ml
Greek coffee: ~ 40mg / cup 40ml
Energy drinks: ~ 80mg / pack
Black tea: ~ 50mg / cup 220ml
Cola refreshments: ~ 30mg / 250ml glass
Dark chocolate: ~ 50mg / 100g

There is, of course, no reason to get a computer to count daily how much caffeine you have consumed. Scientific data clearly tells us that normal, moderate consumption does not pose a risk to our health, and many studies that come to light show that caffeine may have several positive effects on our health, of course not enough to over do it ... currently my average caffeine intake is around 320mg-400mg !

Also found some facts about coffee didn’t knew them all

Great article man... good info, plz do some research on Tea too... I am a Tea fan.. ;)

Thank you @sasiyedavalli ! sure thing i come with my Tea research also ! But im telling you Tea has some super power i know already !

In the summers I end up drinking boatloads of coffee all the time and reading this article relieved me as I don't seem to be doing a lot of damage to my body like I thought (WHEW).

But I have noticed that when I start drinking it more, I start eating a lot less and if I have a couple of cups a day for a while my stomach starts to just burn all the time. I say burn because that's how I'd describe the sensation, and I chalked it up to my stomach being really acidic.

Great article man, it was nice to read it as I was having my morning cup :)

Since you had some stomach issues you should eat something first ! dont torture your stomach !
thank you , have a great day ! :)

Great article sir :) Coffee is also a great source of polyphenols that have benefits. I 1 -5 cups per day is good imo, but the last one should not be after 3'o clock because caffeine does mess with your sleep.

Thank you ! :) i guess it has to do with the type of coffee also, i mean with 1 cup of filter coffee i have jitters ! but i can drink up up to 2-3 cups and be cool ! My sleep gets a mess when i am taking caffeine tabs some times pre work out , cant sleep after that till 5 am!

I love coffee and your super cool T-shirt!!! :)

Who doesn't love coffee! thank you ! 😁

Upvote and Resteem....

This is such a great post! I love this so much. I am a coffee lover (Which you would tell from my last post) so this is good news for me. I have always tried not to drink more than 2 cups of coffee a day (or caffeine sources such as monster and red bull which I also love), but struggle to not have that last cup of coffee towards the end of the day (afternoon or evening - it doesn't really effect my sleep pattern.) Now I know it's not that bad for me. It's not even the caffeine boost I love that much (although that is great too), but I love the taste of good coffee. Cappuccinos and Iced coffees are the best! And yes I dig the shirt. You must have put some effort into getting that done. 😄 Great post, I'll be sure to keep in touch with your other posts!

Thank you the @themessup ! yeah you can drink up to 4 espressos with out any harm on your health or "messing" up your CNS but also this depends on our body limits, you could try decaf coffee blends also ..!
