Quick Tip and Personal Security Update: Hidden Dressing Room Cameras

in #hiddencameras7 years ago

I just received an email from a fellow private investigator within PIAVA. A reporter in Washington, DC for Fox 5 is seeking a private investigator and security expert to comment about hidden cameras.

The police have issued a warning about a new device that has been found within public store dressing rooms.

It is very easy to hide a camera within regularly seen day to day items. Most people do not think twice about the camera's enclosure because it isn't unusual to see it where it is. A hook in a dressing room makes sense, right?

If you see one of these within a dressing room though, chances are high that it is a hidden camera. Leave and report it.

Hidden cameras can be in books on a shelf, smoke detectors on the ceiling, alarm clocks on a table, clocks on the wall, and more places than you can imagine. Dressing rooms are a common target by predators too. Beach restrooms and changing rooms are the worst. When you are in such places, be extra cautious regarding your personal security.

If you suspect something is out of place, do not ignore it. Report the problem to the establishment's management. If they do nothing about it, report the problem to the police.

An uncomfortable reminder that we must be more aware of our surroundings and the devices within the 'sanctuary' that we consider to be private.

Technology has come a long way and cameras are able to be concealed much easier. Even lense and RF detectors do not work on some of the higher quality devices, like spread spectrum devices.

Even more scary than these public places - home! Anything with a camera and Internet connection can be used to watch you; computers, phones, tv. It is unsettling when you consider all the vulnerabilities we face today, compared to only a few decades ago.

Now, more than ever, personal security is more necessary than it's ever been. Being aware of our environment is the first step towards personal security, but knowing what to look for takes much more knowledge and preparation.

We can't all think like a private investigator, but we can sure learn a lot from the savvy professionals, like yourself, (especially) that choose to share that knowledge. 😉

Thank you! I didn't even plan to post this but thought people should know about the recent update.

That hook camera is certainly one device that probably goes unnoticed by most people. I'm not sure I'd ever notice it unless first being aware they exist! That's a scary thing to think that you're in a private dressing room or restroom and someone is watching, possibly even exploiting you for money. Sick. I think the more people aware of what to look for, the better.

Since most people are always on phones these days, if you happen to be in a dressing room or similar area, with cameras, there will often times be electromagnetic interference / clicking / noises. Sometimes we ignore it, but it could indicate a camera being used.

I've seen stories on the news of men arrested for getting inside of a portable toilet (portapotty) - Yes, inside! There is no limit to this sort of sickness, so there's no harm in precaution if you ask me.

Yuck! I've heard of people putting hidden cameras inside the toliets, but getting into the portapotty?! That person needs some help. Floor drains and holes in the walls are common places to hide cameras in public bathrooms. If I'm in a public bathroom and see a hole in the wall, I'll stuff paper into it. haha

I tried to search for the story / details because this was a few years ago - turns out there are actually people doing that. Not just one or two either.. 😳

One guy had scuba gear on!! How dedicated is that guy?! Another was at a Yoga Festival - I figured a yoga festival would have a some unique people, but damn.. Not that unique! I don't get it. At. All.

I don't know about you but I am not down with the creepy cameras...

Agreed! Privacy is very important in places where you should have it.

absolutely, it's so crazy how a camera can be disguised in the tiniest of forms! Like on a pen or something!

The pen ones are great as a PI. I love them. Occasionally I'll get hired to do an asset verification case. That involves going in and talking to a person who took out a large loan and isn't paying it back. Basically, the PI is being used to make sure the person knows they cannot hide from the courts. When I go in to talk to them and deliver the legal paperwork though, the client will often want images of people's faces. Well, the pen in my pocket gets that automatically. ;-)

People have issues...seriously they need to get a life.

Thanks for the tip! @originalworks

You're very welcome! I do not get emails notices like this very often, but I will share them as I get them. :)
