Woman in history-Malek Jahan Khanom(1805-1873)

Malek Jahan Khanom also known as Mahd-e Olia was born in 26 February 1805, Tehran, Persia (nowadays Iran).

When she was about 14-15, she married with her cousin, shah of Persia Mohammad Shah Qajar(his picture bellow)

Malek gave birth for him three sons and two daughters.

In 5 September 1848 Mohammad Shah Qajar died and Malek Jahan Khanom became de facto regent of Persia 5 September 1848-5 October 1848 until her son Naser al-Din Shah Qajar(1831-1896) took over the throne. It is known that as queen mother she exerted considerable political influence during the reign of her son from 1848 until her death in 1873.

Malek Jahan Khanom died in 2 April 1873 being 68 years old. Her son, Naser al-Din Shah Qajar survived his mother for two decades.
