Tele Tuesday: Looping the Detectives

It has been a while since I did anything for #TeleTuesday. A while back I heard this song on the radio and I thought I could do something with it. I have not really done much with looping in songs, but I have seen so many people doing cool stuff, including a good friend of mine. I could hear this riff running through the song that could work as a loop.

I have had my Zoom G3X effects unit for years. It has a basic drum machine and you can do loops of up to 40s. The clever bit is that you can synchronise the loop to the drums by setting how many beats it should record for. This was only a couple of bars.

You will see me reaching down as I have to press a tiny button to start and stop the drums. Then I have to switch modes to the looper and make sure I hit the right buttons with my foot. I performed this at our local open mic, but had some issues as my big shoes were pressing the wrong buttons. I need to read the lyrics too as there are a lot of them.

This was a first take of the video and not too bad. I had a few timing issues, but I am fairly happy with it. I hope you enjoy it. I need to experiment more with this technology. I actually have three different loopers and one can do really long loops.

Rock on!

I need to find my looper. It's been ages since I have had some fun with it. Top notch looping!

Cheers. I have a Boss looper and my Roland amp has one built in. I have used them for general practice, but this song was my first attempt at using one for live performance. It's like another instrument you have to practice.

Hey @meesterboom, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.

Kind of reminds me a little bit of a Spanish salty version of David Bowie! Well played, @steevc !

Cheers. I do love some Bowie. I'll see if I can do one of his songs some time.

That would be lovely!! I'll stay alert for that 🙂

Nice! I love that tune. Not bad on this one. I've been researching loopers and rhythm machines. I'd like to get something to experiment with.

Loopers are great fun and really useful for practice. Actually performing with them is an art in itself. If you make a mistake it comes back to haunt you. The technology is amazing these days. Wish I'd had this stuff when I was a teenager.

The concentration you use here is as amazing as your musical talent. Wow man, congratulations. I have a hard time with it myself, so I usually just sing, but you make it look so easy. I haven't enjoyed any of your posts in a while, but it's inevitable to forget your work once you've been known...

It took me a while just to learn to play and sing together. I play with groups too, but I like playing solo. Enjoy your music.

Is there the option to use another foot pedal to start and stop the drums. That way you don't have to take your hands off the guitar? Awesome job!

You can plug in another footswitch that can be assigned different functions. I should try that. This is designed more for practice than performance, but it worked for this. Other loopers can do a lot more.

Yeah, it looks like it worked just fine. I guess it would be more about convenience. If it is worth the cost of course.

I may have something I can use. Need to check if it works. I'm only doing this stuff for fun though, so it's not vital.

Nice work Steve.
