Mis esperanzas de comer plátanos maduros de mi patio en las próximas semanas se extinguieron desde que ayer comenzó una fuerte lluvia acompañanda por bravos vientos que echaron al piso varias de las mantas de plátanos que ya tenían racimos en crecimiento.
La llegada de esta tormenta estaba anunciada desde hace varios días por nuestro servicio meteorológico nacional . Pero sinceramente nunca imaginé que llegaría a ser tan intensa.
Desde la tarde de ayer tuve que mantener puertas y ventanas cerradas. Escuchando los rugidos del viento y el golpear incesante de la lluvia sobre el techo de la casa. Al despertar está mañana no imaginaba el escenario de desastre en que se había convertido mi patio..
La mañana había amanecido tranquila. El cielo estaba bien nublado, pero todos pensábamos que lo peor había pasado. Así que me ocupe de ir a la bodega a comprar papas. Y estando allí junto a muchos otros vecinos que también esperaban para comprar, empezó a llover torrencialmente . Nos agrupamos todos bajo un pequeño techo sin renunciar a la idea de comer papas fritas en el almuerzo jajaja.
Ya con el tesoro de las papas en la mano, regresé corriendo a casa bajo la lluvia. Descubrí entonces que no podía entrar a la casa por que se había inundado el jardín por la cantidad de agua acumulada. En vez de lanzarme a nadar jajaja, tuve que valerme de una madera sobre la que apoyar mis pies y así lograr cruzar el lago.
Ya dentro de casa ,puse las papas a cocinar y decidí hacerles este post para contarles de la experiencia. Me salí al patio y viendo como había perdido varias matas de plátanos, les tiré fotos para que tengan idea de lo que puede causar una tormenta corta pero intensa. Después intentaba arreglar la situación cuando comenzaron nuevamente los vientos de tormenta y las fuertes lluvias...
Tuve que refugiarme dentro de casa y cerrar puertas y ventanas rápidamente. En el techo se escuchaba el golpeteo de los granizos sobre mi techo. Una experiencia poco común en nuestro clima con cálidas lluvias tropicales. Abrí la ventana del cuarto para poder tomar fotos del momento y la lluvia aprovechó para entrar y mojar mi cama. Después salí por el portal y decidí mojarme para tomar algunas vistas que pudieran captar la magnitud de la lluvia sobre mi ciudad. Por la fuerza de la tormenta se fue la electricidad y por suerte mi almuerzo ya estaba listo.
Cuando comencé a escribir este post en la televisión se daba la noticia de la falta de fluido eléctrico en varias comunidades del occidente de Cuba. El gobierno comienza a activar la ayuda para recuperar el servicio eléctrico y mientras tanto también ofrecer alimentos cocinados a las poblaciones donde lo necesitan. Llame a mi hermana que vive en una ciudad a 9 kilómetros de la mía y efectivamente están sin electricidad debido a unos postes que tumbó el viento cerca de la autopista.Su teléfono apenas tiene un 5% de carga útil en la batería. Ha llovido tanto que mi casa está rodeada de agua y a punto de inundarse. Cogí un cubo y saque agua de las zonas mas bajas...ha salido el sol por el momento, pero el servicio de meteorología adivirtio que a pesar de la aparente calma, hay que estar preparados pues la tormenta continuará....

The morning had dawned calmly. The sky was very cloudy, but we all thought the worst was over. So I took it upon myself to go to the bodega to buy potatoes. And while I was there with many other neighbors who were also waiting to buy, it started to rain torrentially. We all grouped under a small roof without giving up the idea of eating french fries for lunch hahaha.
With the treasure of potatoes in my hand, I ran back home in the rain. I then discovered that I could not enter the house because the garden had flooded due to the amount of water accumulated. Instead of jumping in for a swim, hahaha, I had to use a piece of wood to support my feet to cross the lake.
Once inside the house, I put the potatoes to cook and decided to make this post to tell you about the experience. I went out to the patio and seeing how I had lost several banana trees, I took some pictures to give you an idea of what a short but intense storm can cause. Then I was trying to fix the situation when the storm winds and heavy rains started again...
I had to take shelter indoors and close doors and windows quickly. On the roof, I could hear hailstones pounding on my roof. A rare experience in our climate with warm tropical rains. I opened the bedroom window so I could take pictures of the moment and the rain took the opportunity to come in and wet my bed. Then I went out the doorway and decided to get wet to take some views that could capture the magnitude of the rain over my city. Because of the force of the storm the electricity went out and luckily my lunch was ready.
When I started writing this post, the television was broadcasting the news of the lack of electricity in several communities in western Cuba. The government is beginning to activate the aid to recover the electric service and meanwhile also offer cooked food to the populations where they need it.
