Un Saludo para toda la comunidad.
Aunque este podría parecer mi post de presentación, en realidad no lo es. Ya llevo un tiempo en la plataforma, aunque debo admitir que no público con la frecuencia que desearía. No pretendo justificarme, pero las exigencias de mi trabajo a menudo me dejan poco tiempo para dedicarme a otras actividades, aparte de mi familia, por supuesto. Por lo que quiero hablar en esta publicación sobre mi profesión, lo apasionado que estoy por ella y cómo logré estudiar la carrera que siempre quise para mi futuro.
Así que me presento una vez más, para aquellos que aún no me conocen. Mi nombre es Rainer Lester y soy graduado en Ingeniería de Telecomunicaciones y Electrónica en la CUJAE. Actualmente, soy trabajador de Etecsa. Pero llegar aquí me llevó tiempo y esfuerzo. En el camino tuve diferentes experiencias y algunos contratiempos.
Greetings to the whole community.
Although this might seem like my introductory post, it's really not. I have been on the platform for a while now, although I must admit that I don't post as often as I would like to. I don't mean to justify myself, but the demands of my job often leave me little time to devote to other activities, apart from my family, of course. So I want to talk in this publication about my profession, how passionate I am about it and how I managed to study the career I always wanted for my future.
So I introduce myself once again, for those who don't know me yet. My name is Rainer Lester and I am a graduate in Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering from CUJAE. Currently, I work for Etecsa. But it took me time and effort to get here. Along the way I had different experiences and some setbacks.
Lo primero que estudié fue Técnico en Electrónica. Luego matriculé en la CUJAE (Universidad Tecnológica de La Habana José Antonio Echeverría) después de aprobar los exámenes de ingreso. En el primer año dejé mis estudios debido a la necesidad de ganar dinero. En esa época empecé a trabajar en un taller de Electrónica y fue muy difícil llevar de conjunto el plan de estudios del CPT (Curso para Trabajadores) y el trabajo. Pero amaba esa carrera y nunca pensé escoger un camino diferente. Así que decidí esperar un año y luego volver a presentarme a los exámenes de admisión, nuevamente a través del CPT. Tuve que empezar otra vez desde el primer año, pero eso no fue un problema.
Mi experiencia en la universidad fue increíble. Todos aquellos que han cursado una carrera coincidirán conmigo en que la vida universitaria es inolvidable. Conocí a personas maravillosas, hice amigos que perduran hasta el día de hoy y puedo decir que son como una familia para mí. Además, adquirí una base de conocimientos y herramientas que me son útiles en mi trabajo actual.
The first thing I studied was Electronics Technician. Then I enrolled in CUJAE (Technological University of Havana José Antonio Echeverría) after passing the entrance exams. In the first year I left my studies due to the need to earn money. At that time I started working in an electronics workshop and it was very difficult to manage the CPT (Course for Workers) studies and the job. But I loved that career and never thought of choosing a different path. So I decided to wait a year and then retake the entrance exams, again through CPT. I had to start again from the first year, but that was not a problem.
My university experience was amazing. Anyone who has gone through college will agree with me that college life is unforgettable. I met wonderful people, made friends that last to this day and I can say that they are like family to me. In addition, I acquired a knowledge base and tools that are useful to me in my current job.
La universidad lleva sacrificio sobre todo para los que trabajan y estudian al mismo tiempo y además tienen familia que mantener como muchos de mis compañeros. No puedo olvidar las noches sin dormir estudiando para un examen, muchas veces no para un examen regular, sino para una revalorización o un extraordinario. Era común que muchos de nosotros aprobaran en la última oportunidad, siempre estábamos con la soga al cuello. Llevar en paralelo la vida de estudiante y de trabajador no es tarea fácil. Hay que quitarle tiempo al sueño y al ocio. Las clases presenciales eran todos los sábados, y en ese día nos daban cuatro horas solamente de cada asignatura. Por tanto, nosotros teníamos que hacer mucho estudio individual ya que la cantidad de horas clases era menor que las del curso diurno. Los que han hecho una carrera por CPT seguro se identificaran conmigo en esto.
University takes sacrifice, especially for those who work and study at the same time and also have a family to support, like many of my classmates. I cannot forget the sleepless nights studying for an exam, many times not for a regular exam, but for a revaluation or an extraordinary exam. It was common for many of us to pass at the last opportunity, we were always with our necks in a noose. It is not an easy task to lead the life of a student and a worker at the same time. You have to take time away from sleep and leisure. The face-to-face classes were all on Saturdays, and on that day we were given only four hours of each subject. Therefore, we had to do a lot of individual study since the number of class hours was less than in the day course. Those of you who have taken a CPT course will surely identify with me on this.
En cuarto año de la carrera perdí casi todo un semestre por problemas de enfermedad, cuando por un accidente me lesione la columna y termine con una hernia discal. En este semestre suspendí tres asignaturas de cinco, y tuve que examinarlas en Mundial. Lo difícil de ese año de escuela fue el esfuerzo físico producto de los dolores que me provocaba la lesión, hacer un examen bajo esas condiciones fue muy duro. Por esta razón, pedí la baja del trabajo para poder recuperarme. Estuve varias veces en el salón quirúrgico del Hospital Ortopédico Fructuoso Rodríguez para que me hicieran un bloqueo lumbar, y pase seis meses inyectándome ozono en los músculos de la espalda baja, como tratamiento. Fue un tiempo realmente difícil, pero jamás me paso por la cabeza abandonar los estudios. Tengo que agradecer la ayuda de mis compañeros de aula que me apoyaron muchísimo para seguir adelante y nunca dejaron de empujarme para poder aprobar, y por supuesto a los médicos que me atendieron.
In the fourth year of my career I lost almost a whole semester due to illness problems, when I had an accident that injured my spine and I ended up with a herniated disc. In that semester I failed three subjects out of five, and I had to take them at World Cup. The difficult part of that year of school was the physical effort due to the pain caused by the injury, taking an exam under those conditions was very hard. For this reason, I asked for leave from work in order to recover. I was several times in the surgical room of the Fructuoso Rodriguez Orthopedic Hospital to have a lumbar block, and I spent six months injecting ozone in my lower back muscles as a treatment. It was a really difficult time, but it never crossed my mind to abandon my studies. I have to thank the help of my classmates who supported me a lot to keep going and never stopped pushing me to be able to pass, and of course the doctors who treated me.
Finalmente, después de siete años de carrera, y unos cuantos cabellos (muchos) de menos, me gradué de Ingeniero, y vivo orgulloso de mi título, aunque no lo haya enmarcado y puesto en la pared de la sala de mi casa. Dicen que lo que no te mata te fortalece, pues es verdad. Después de la prueba de fuego de esos años en la Universidad no hay obstáculo que se me presente que no lo afronte con el mismo empeño.
Finally, after seven years of career, and a few (many) hairs less, I graduated as an Engineer, and I am proud of my degree, even if I have not framed it and put it on the wall of my living room at home.They say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, well, it's true. After the trial by fire of those years at the University there is no obstacle that comes my way that I do not face with the same determination.
Después de graduado cambie muchas veces de Centro laboral en busca de mejores condiciones y mejora salarial. Estuve muchas veces contratado como Administrador de Red, y es verdad que aprendí mucho en esa rama, pero no era lo que me apasionaba, quería desempeñarme en algo que tuviera relación con lo que estudié. Así que me decidí y me fui a Etecsa, la empresa de Telecomunicaciones del país, con mi currículum y mi cara dura como decimos los cubanos a preguntar en Recursos Humanos si me podían contratar. Me atendieron muy amablemente y me pidieron mis papeles y mi contacto, y me dijeron que debía esperar a que apareciera una vacante disponible. Yo no tenía muchas esperanzas, siempre escuché que entrar en esa empresa era difícil, ¡así que quedé gratamente sorprendido cuando me llamaron para avisarme que había un puesto disponible para mí!
After graduation, I changed many times from one job center to another in search of better conditions and better salaries. I was hired many times as a Network Administrator, and it is true that I learned a lot in that field, but it was not what I was passionate about, I wanted to work in something related to what I studied. So I decided to go to Etecsa, the telecommunications company of the country, with my resume and my hard face as we Cubans say, to ask in Human Resources if they could hire me. They served me very kindly and asked me for my papers and my contact information, and told me that I had to wait for a vacancy to become available. I didn't have high hopes, I had always heard that getting into that company was difficult, so I was pleasantly surprised when they called me to let me know that there was a position available for me!
Actualmente llevo cinco años en ETECSA, pertenezco a una dirección de TI en la vicepresidencia de Estrategia y Negocios y me siento muy complacido con lo que hago. Tengo unos compañeros de departamento muy buenos, somos como una gran familia. Lo que más disfruto es estar vinculado a proyectos, donde tengo la oportunidad de desarrollarme profesionalmente y continuar aprendiendo. Este mundo tecnológico crece con mucha rapidez y es necesario estar siempre estudiando y adquiriendo nuevos conocimientos, eso es lo que más me apasiona del trabajo.
Actually I have been with ETECSA for five years, I belong to an IT department in the vice-presidency of Strategy and Business and I am very pleased with what I do. I have very good colleagues in the department, we are like a big family. What I enjoy most is being involved in projects, where I have the opportunity to develop professionally and continue learning. This technological world is growing very fast and it is necessary to be always studying and acquiring new knowledge, that is what I am most passionate about at work.
