RE: Running Costs

Ha, try having five cars. Lucky Jamie does all of the work/servicing. It's ridiculous. I mean you can only drive one at a time - and hopefully we can have the new old Landie on club plates, and the one in UK on free UK plates soon (historic vehicle).

Then there's my VW t5 that needs a lot of work doing to do it - he'll do all the work, it's just havint the time to get around to it.

And the VW passat needs a few things done to it.

The Defender is fine, just Jamie is spending money on a new nanucom and wants to get lockers for it - sigh.

But then, cars are kinda his hobby as well.

Woudl you consider an electric car?

Woudl you consider an electric car?

Funnny question, because the new Mazda has a 62 Litre tank, compared to my Old Focus having a 50L tank, the first week I needed to refuel I regretted every second of a petrol car.

We have a large solar set up, and a battery, so on reflection, I'd probably never have to pay for fuel ever again if I had purchased an electric car; but I won't be selling / "upgrading" until this one is beyond economical repair.

My sticking point about not going electric was

  • I wanted a wagon (and there's no wagons that fit the bill)
  • I still wanted the sensation of gear changes (selfish, I know - but I did go from a manual to something with flappy paddles)

And finally, I don't wanna pay an electrician several thousand dollars (yet) to upgrade our board to get a charger placed in the right position. (I'd also not be keeping an electric car in the garage, I'd leave it in the drive way).

Only one car here, but also only one licensed driver, @ursa never wanted to learn.
