Yellowjackets Wasp and a little help from me

in Fascinating Insects4 hours ago (edited)

When you see a wasp, it looks dangerous, which it is, but you'd hardly think it could get caught in a spider's web. Today, at work, in a room we rarely use, I was watching a wasp caught in a spider's web. It was trying to escape, it was struggling with those web mites.

Since I saw that she was still alive and struggling, and the spider was nowhere in sight, I decided to help her. I untied the threads she was attached to, probably because she got caught in the spider's web while flying.

She fell onto the tiles on the floor, her feet still had the threads of the net on them. Now almost free but visibly exhausted, she began to clean herself of the remaining cobwebs.

In our country it is often called the cardboard wasp, because both build nests that resemble gray cardboard or paper. Although they are two different species, the true cardboard wasp (genus Polistes) is much calmer and the yellowjacket wasp is more aggressive.

If I've managed to identify this individual correctly, this is a worker.
They are very common in North America and Europe. They inhabit forests, meadows, agricultural properties, but they adapt extremely well to urban and suburban environments. They are extremely territorial and can be very aggressive. Unlike bees, female yellowjackets have stingers without large hooks, which allows them to sting multiple times without losing the stinger.
They probably have a nest somewhere near my company. But I haven't had any bad encounters with wasps, I'm generally not afraid of them and when I see them I don't panic, I don't wave my arms. I just follow the wasp's flight. Know a sting is not pleasant. I always try to disperse peacefully. That's how I did with our model, as soon as she cleaned herself up a bit and took off, I let her go on her way
