Here is a Chinese mantis I found right in the middle of downtown Chicago.
This gal was huge and very tame.
I noticed it outside a Chipotle in a dangerous area to get stepped on right by the entrance.
I had to pick it up and relocate it to a safe area with plans for it to hide in.
When I put my hand down it crawled right up my arm. Usually when I catch these guys they try and bite me.
This one looked like it might have tried flying somewhere then it got blown into a spider web as you can see some of the web left on its legs.
Fortunately there was a small flower bed park nearby and it was a perfect place to relocate this gal.
I hope it can snipe some stink bugs and flies from in here.
It went right into action perching in wait next to a flower for an insect to land.
Lets hope it stays safe here and can maybe lay an egg in time for fall.
That's all for now, I'll probably check this area again to see if it stuck around for another day.
I saw mantises in my garden when I lived in Argentina, but I had never seen one so big and so calm, so much so that it was very comfortable in your hand. I think it knew you saved it, judging by the spider web on its legs, and you were also very kind to it by taking it to a safe place. It must have sensed that.
It's beautiful, and they're very elegant insects, so to speak. They quickly blend into their surroundings and look for food. I've always liked seeing them; I find them very cute. It trusted you, and that was important. Thank you for saving it. The photographs are beautiful!
I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions posts!

Were the mantids in Argentina a different color? I used to see sand colored ones in Arizona that were super small and bitey.
They're green too, but not as big! That one is beautiful!
Cute guy… well done for relocating it.
Have a nice sunday.

It seemed to know I was there to relicate it.
That's one of the biggest I've ever seen!
I hope it lays a pod somewhere. Now I want to order a few mantis eggs for my balcony next spring.
