HIVE TOP CHEF : DOUGH - SFENJ

in Qurator3 years ago

I wanted so badly to join last week's Hive Top Chef, but I simply forgot to drop my entry!

Anyways, for this week, the contestants got a simple product to shine, The Dough!

Check out what I'm bringing for you foodies, as usual something very easy to make at home!!!

SFENJ

Sfenj is a very famous 'snack/fritter-like' Moroccan doughnut made from a sticky, unsweetened leavened dough !

Perfect with some Moroccan mint tea!

Very basic ingredients needed!

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon raw sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vinegar
  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

STEPS...

Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let if proof for about 10 minutes!

  1. Put the flour, salt, sugar and vinegar in a bowl.
  2. Add the warm water and yeast mixture to it and stir vigorously with your hand until smooth.
The dough must be too sticky to knead or shape, almost like a thick batter.
  3. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for about 3 hours until double or triple in quantity.
  4. After 3 hours of raising, knead the dough until you get a very soft texture.

  1. Wet your hands in the oil, then pull off pieces of dough about the size of a golf ball!
  2. With the use of your fingers, make a hole in the dough ball and stretch the hole wide to make like a ring!
  3. Place the dough ring directly in hot oil for frying!
  4. After a couple of seconds, it will start to take a nice golden brown color in the bottom!
Turn it over and cook the other side until golden brown!

As mentioned above...you need a nice Moroccan mint tea to accompany your sfenj...hmmm milk tea works well also!

Thank you @qurator for giving the foodies out there the opportunity to participate in your well organized contest!

Wish you well!
Good luck to all foodies!
