RE: Proposal: reduce Hive inflation by reducing curation rewards

in Hive Improvement4 years ago (edited)

Dear @blocktrades

I hope you won't take my comment as a criticizm or complain. I would only like to point out, that many projects and communities out there exist thanks to dleasing their Hive Power (which is allowing them to function the way they do) and reducing curation rewards will put all those projects/communities into very difficult position.

I fully agree with you, that "Curation actually is very time-intensive". It's definetly time consuming. But that's not the only problem. Most communities are looking for different ways of raising their voting power and most of them are renting HP from others (either directly or via dlease). All those communities will be affected, making it so much harder ... even simply to survive.

And it surely won't remove major problem: auto-vote bots.
Im my opinion, the way to fight with auto-vote bots is to remove non-linear reward curve (which is encouraging to place upvote around 5th min since publication took place). If we simply reduce curation rewards, then it will affect manual curators as much (or even more) than those who still do auto. I just don't see how it would play out any different way.

Again: I do not criticize your suggestion. Just sharing my worries and concerns.

OK, if you’re still with me on this, how much lower should curation rewards be?

My anwer would be: Zero.

This change may not help HIVE economy and most likely will not do anything to combat problem with auto-votes. However, it will push many investors to dump their HIVE tokens. Just like lowering interest rates would encourage people keeping their savings in the bank to continue doing so. And it will deliver enormous blow to so many communities out there.

What your relationship didn't worked out?

Level of your anger and hate is quite mindblowing @thevil

wouldn't life be easier and better with less of that silly hate?

Dear @blocktrades

I would also like to add, that in case if that change would be implemented - it would be awesome to give people/communities time to adjust.

I've mentioned dlease.io users in my previous comment. I'm myself one. I'm renting around 90k HP - simply to be able to support our community members.

Even now - people like myself - are far from breaking even on curation rewards (versus cost of renting it out). If revenue coming from rewards will drop then for some period of time all those users will be having solid losses (since all dleased HP need to be paid upfront - usually for 2-3 months ahead).

Yours, Piotr
