Right of the bat another cryptic message by @thegrandestine is greeting us. Followed by a much clearer statement about Chess Evolved Online or CEO being a one man project that has been in the making for ten years now. Steam still lists it as an Early Access game... but it is free and it is actually really good! The game has a much more positiv vibe to it than most that I saw and heard out of Grandestine so far. We had a talk where he explained a lot of stuff to me regarding [THE GAME] and gave me a ton of new clues, but more on that later.
Chess rant
I hate chess. As someone who likes numbers and games people recommended chess to me from an early age. I even joined the chess club for a year, but learning the true skill behind chess, which is memorizing every possible scenario and the best solution for it, disgusted me. All my intuition and logic thinking can't compete with that and I hate memorizing stuff at least if it is just for the sake of memorizing it. Every moderate strategic PC game is so complex (compared to chess) that you can't just memorize good solutions, you constantly have to adapt and each round is unique, at least in League of Legends that is, not to mention the physical abilities like reaction time and finger movement that come into play.
CEO = good
Chess Evolved Online is different than chess. It really lives up to the name. It is a modern version of the old chess game that brings modern mechanics like upgrades/progression and most importantly tons of new units into the game. With all this added and there being more possible deck combinations than stars in the universe, I guess it is impossible to predict every match-up.
For all you chess purists: The classical deck is your starter deck and it has quite a good fire power against low level evolved decks. The tutorial is a little tedious, it is well made, but the interface and gameplay are so intuitiv that you can just start grinding in my opinion. You will encounter a lot of bots on the low levels and it really rubbed my ego that I rofl-stomped them all. Well except for the Mirror-bot who just copied my setup, Grand pointed to the account @mirrorforce when I told him... hmmmm...
I also won my first and so far only match against a human. You can enable the "Player Only"-Option to filter out the bots and it took me about five minutes to find a match, compared to the 30 seconds maximum it takes if you are willing to face a bot. The more you wait the higher the rank difference of the players you are matched with.
Since Grandestine always schwurbels a lot about AI, I figured those bots might also give hints. At least this shows an example of what AIs Grand has already programmed. I only understand machine learning in the classic chess example where you let the algorithm memorize the probability of winning for every positioning of the units and the algorithm then tries to always get to high probability positionings.
[THE GAME]
I don't want to get distracted too much by the Token game surrounding @nectar-queen. There is a lot of urgency though. @thegrandestine told me that there are two countdowns running out: one tomorrow at the 15th and one at the 21st of march. It is about time travel, the ambitious goal is to create an AI that can counter the evil hivemind (that Grand also understands as a form of AI) that plagued humanity for centuries.

A recommendation to every chess fan
CEO delivers everything Ragnarok promised minus the blockchain. It is 44 MB large, it is free, very easy to get in, good UI, good matchmaking, the developer is a Hivian and just released a DeFi game (or maybe something much more complex) on hive. If you like chess there is really no excuse to not try the Game of Kings, Chess Evolved Online.
And like I said, I don't like chess and I think the game is great, maybe it is because of the tons of loot you get. :)

Gleich zu Beginn begrüßt uns eine weitere kryptische Nachricht von @thegrandestine. Gefolgt von einer viel klareren Aussage darüber, dass Chess Evolved Online oder CEO ein Ein-Mann-Projekt ist, das schon seit zehn Jahren in der Entwicklung ist. Steam listet es immer noch als Early-Access-Spiel... aber es ist kostenlos und es ist wirklich gut! Das Spiel hat eine viel positivere Ausstrahlung als die meisten Spiele, die ich bisher von Grandestine gesehen und gehört habe. Wir hatten ein Gespräch, in dem er mir eine Menge über [THE GAME] erklärt hat und mir eine Menge neuer Hinweise gegeben hat, aber dazu später mehr.
Schach-Tirade
Ich hasse Schach. Als jemand, der Zahlen und Spiele mag, haben mir die Leute von klein auf Schach empfohlen. Ich war sogar ein Jahr lang Mitglied im Schachklub, aber die wahre Kunst des Schachspiels zu erlernen, nämlich jedes mögliche Szenario und die beste Lösung dafür auswendig zu lernen, hat mich angewidert. All meine Intuition und mein logisches Denken können da nicht mithalten, und ich hasse es, Dinge auswendig zu lernen, zumindest wenn es nur um des Auswendiglernens willen ist. Jedes mittelmäßige strategische PC-Spiel ist so komplex (im Vergleich zu Schach), dass man gute Lösungen nicht einfach auswendig lernen kann, man muss sich ständig anpassen und jede Runde ist einzigartig, zumindest in League of Legends, ganz zu schweigen von den physischen Fähigkeiten wie Reaktionszeit und Fingerbewegung, die ins Spiel kommen.
CEO = gut
Chess Evolved Online ist anders als Schach. Es wird seinem Namen wirklich gerecht. Es ist eine moderne Version des alten Schachspiels, die moderne Mechanismen wie Upgrades/Progression und vor allem tonnenweise neue Einheiten ins Spiel bringt. Mit all dem und der Tatsache, dass es mehr mögliche Deckkombinationen als Sterne im Universum gibt, ist es wohl unmöglich, jedes Match-up vorherzusagen.
Für alle Schachpuristen unter euch: Das klassische Deck ist das Einstiegsdeck und es hat eine ziemlich gute Feuerkraft gegen niedrigstufige, weiterentwickelte Decks. Das Tutorial ist ein wenig mühsam, es ist gut gemacht, aber das Interface und das Gameplay sind so intuitiv, dass man meiner Meinung nach einfach anfangen kann zu grinden. Auf den niedrigen Stufen trifft man auf eine Menge Bots und es hat mein Ego wirklich gerieben, dass ich sie alle rofl-stomped habe (auf deutsch: Ich lag lachend auf dem Boden als ich sie besiegt habe). Naja, bis auf den Mirror-Bot, der einfach mein Setup kopiert hat, Grand hat auf den Account @mirrorforce gezeigt, als ich es ihm erzählt habe... hmmmm...
Ich habe auch mein erstes und bisher einziges Match gegen einen Menschen gewonnen. Man kann die "Player Only"-Option aktivieren, um die Bots herauszufiltern, und ich habe etwa fünf Minuten gebraucht, um ein Match zu finden, im Vergleich zu den maximal 30 Sekunden, die es dauert, wenn man bereit ist, gegen einen Bot anzutreten. Je länger man wartet, desto höher ist der Rangunterschied zwischen den Spielern, mit denen man zusammengebracht wird.
Da Grandestine immer viel über KI schwurbelt, dachte ich mir, dass diese Bots vielleicht auch Hinweise geben könnten. Zumindest zeigt das ein Beispiel dafür, welche KIs Grand bereits programmiert hat. Ich verstehe maschinelles Lernen nur im klassischen Schachbeispiel, wo man den Algorithmus die Gewinnwahrscheinlichkeit für jede Stellung der Einheiten auswendig lernen lässt und der Algorithmus dann versucht, immer zu Stellungen mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit zu gelangen.

Ich möchte mich nicht zu sehr von dem Token-Spiel um @nectar-queen ablenken lassen. Es gibt jedoch eine Menge Dringlichkeit. @thegrandestine hat mir erzählt, dass es zwei Countdowns gibt, die ablaufen: einen morgen am 15. und einen am 21. März. Es geht um Zeitreisen, das ehrgeizige Ziel ist es, eine KI zu erschaffen, die das böse Hivemind (den Grand auch als eine Form der KI versteht) bekämpfen kann, das die Menschheit seit Jahrhunderten plagt.

Eine Empfehlung an jeden Schachfan
CEO liefert alles, was Ragnarok versprochen hat - ohne die Blockchain. Es ist 44 MB groß, es ist kostenlos, sehr einfach einzusteigen, gutes UI, gutes Matchmaking, der Entwickler ist ein Hivianer und hat gerade ein DeFi-Spiel (oder vielleicht etwas viel Komplexeres) auf Hive veröffentlicht. Wenn Sie Schach mögen, gibt es wirklich keine Ausrede, das Game of Kings, Chess Evolved Online, nicht auszuprobieren.
Und wie ich schon sagte, ich mag kein Schach und finde das Spiel großartig, vielleicht liegt es an der tonnenschweren Beute, die man bekommt :)

Danke für die Vorstellung! Ich hasse Schach nicht. Doch mir fehlt oft die Zeit dazu. Das Spiel was du vorgestellt hast hört sich echt interessant an. Werde ich mir mal anschauen.
