Room 252

Remember the abandoned military sanitarium from a few months back? Well, I grabbed a buddy, a couple of flashlights and replacement brown pants and headed into the unknown inside.

What a beautiful sunny day outside, we weren't prepared for the dusty and moist darkness in the old sanitarium. Even taking a stroll around the building felt nice.

But here we were, and in we had to go. Our entry point was a basement window right by the set of stairs in the back. Looks inviting, doesn't it?

First thing we stumbled on a toilet. Fairly well preserved, considering the state of the other toilets all over the house. And a sauna. This was the only sauna we found, there might have been others, but since this place was a maze, we missed some exits and entries.

But as this place was new to us, it wasn't new to others. The sauna, just like the rest of the building, was destroyed, everything of value ripped and taken and the building had given in to moisture and weather aftermath.

I wouldn't want to be in this guy's boots. Mandatory shot.

A totally intact water heater was in the washing room behind the sauna.. weird. Probably the only thing of value left here.

The walls were peeling with old crumbling paint and most windows smashed underneath those boards. This place has seen better times for sure.

In one of the room there was a blackboard, with messages left for visitors. We were not going to turn back though.

As we moved higher, this set of stairs in one of the corridors was riddled with glass shards. Someone had some fun here breaking glass. The shards made an eerie crunching sound as we climbed the stairs.

We made it to the end of this side of the building, this is the round part on the cover photo on the previous post. Nothing much to see here other than boxes, trash, bad graffiti and some cool newspaper articles underneath the wallpaper.

Some of these papers date back to 1964 and 1975 ("Kõigi maade proletaarlased, ühinege!").

Moving on via the pitch black and dusty corridors, we come to a set of rooms, most having a safe built into the wall. Guess these must be the patient rooms, where the patients could store their valuables in the safes.

Guess these safes weren't so safe after all. Some of the safes had been opened, some had been tried to be broken into, some remained still locked. One one the floor had been ripped from the wall, but seems that the rascals couldn't break into the money drawer inside. Probs empty anyway, like in the other safes.

Here's another toilet. Nothing really interesting except these funny details - there's this toilet brush still standing beside the toilet bowl, like a tin soldier, guarding his territory. When the rest of the building collapses, the toilet brush will still stand guard.

As we moved further, we came to a part of the building, where the roof had collapsed and the rain had done it's job. It was scary moving here, as the floor could give in any time. We took careful steps and passed the dangerous corner.

There was a lot of graffiti in this part, guess this had been the hangout for some punks.

There was a bit more light here as well, but I still had to turn on more light via photo editing software.

Double safes! This was a family room? Or just a dual room. Or perhaps a room for staff.

You've done your job well, fire alarm. Now move on with your life, get out, explore!

This next room gave me the creeps, feels like walking into a disco here, the blue light, graffiti and plastic doors give off this slasher movie vibe.

Now this part made me uneasy. This dark and wet corner made me feel like we were deep underground and in a Blair Witch movie. Looks just like the corner where the witch would make his victims stand in.

Not gonna dilly-dally around here too much, past this creepy corridor...

.. and we made it to a room, where the window was barred but not boarded.

Room 252.

That's the good spot. Sunlight gave a nice boost and back into the dungeons we went.

Ooh, nice, the attic! Not much to see here, besides roof access:

While trawling a dungeon-like maze of dusty and dark rooms, it's easy to forget what's outside. The fresh air, sunlight and the forest view hit us like a boxing glove.

Time to head back, but taking the other set of stairs we saw on our way here.

Grabbed abother shot of a toilet for you. Why the hell am I taking photos of toilets?! Please make me stop!

This next room on the first look seemed like a weapons cabinet with metal cupboards and doors, but turns out that it housed some electrical thingamajigs and connectors. My exploration buddy thought that this might have been the X-Ray room. Perhaps.. why don't you let me lock you in here for the night and lets see what you think in the morning.

Past these creepy doors and through the hall with suspicious and dark holes in the floor. I wouldn't want to be the one falling a few levels below. Who knows where these holes lead and whether there's a way out even.

Here's another toilet for you. Oh god, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! That was the last one, I promise!

Luckily, we made it to the exit, now just had to get hands dirty, do some climbing and leave this moldy place.

Great experience, but I wish people wouldn't destroy so much.

Got there just in time, when I saw the site reconstruction and detail planning notice in the local paper. It's gonna be gone soon, repurposed as an apartment building.
