Tales of the Urban Explorer: Associated Waste Management Ltd

This was one long day. I can tell it was productive as I have TEN explores with the same file dates of 'April 2023'. I am falling even further behind in my writing.

Let me start with the worst of the bunch and that is ‘Associated Waste Management Ltd’ in Leeds, a cesspit of an explore with little in the way of redeeming value.

2_IMG_8639_2.jpg

We should have known it from the start. It’s a waste management company, so what can you expect to find inside? Fetid filthy water complete with green scum and pokey weeds sticking out?

...or did that 'harmless' green water contain a 'scum monster' and it had eaten all the employees? You have to consider all scenarios.

18_IMG_8655_18.jpg

Let me tell you getting to these shitty weeds was not so easy.

17_IMG_8654_17.jpg

After scouring the perimeter and finding lots of pallaside fencing with no loose bars as well as locks with a few karate blue belts added for further protection, we walked around the other side of this huge building and noticed another derpy building on the other side of the road.

14_IMG_8651_14.jpg
'are they having babies around this area or something?'…

We found a way in through the rusted metal fencing, and @anidiotexplores duly went in to scout.

I followed and found an almost unnavigable dense mini-forest far side which ended at an empty open window that revealed a whole lot of nothing inside.

Fuck sake, what a pile of shit!

20_IMG_8657_20.jpg

Turning back to 'Associated Waste Management Ltd', and bypassing the nicely collapsed herras fencing (it wasn't us!), it was time to breach that far wall and get inside the grounds.

13_IMG_8650_13.jpg

The heavily rusted door in the corner looked like the ‘weak point’, and was not as bad as it looked, as on this side there were a few handles and footholds. The top however was sharp, and as rusty as the rest of it.

Ooooh.... my balls... AGAIN.

12_IMG_8649_12.jpg

Straddling these is never easy, and you can see from the far side that the chair helped a little on the descent, but still, it was a full body haul on exit, something I do not relish at my age.

They say, if it's a tough entry, then it will be worth it. Lies I tell you, a big load of shit.

1_IMG_8638_1.jpg

Being in a wide open yard should have bothered us, but it became apparent nobody was going to visit, at least while we were there.

For something so large, the inside was incredibly dull. One building contained nothing of interest besides space, so we moved on to what looked like an office.

3_IMG_8640_3.jpg

'No Muddy Boots', fat chance of that NOT happening with all the slime and water we were forced to walk on.

4_IMG_8641_4.jpg

The whiteboard bore evidence of a business and more of someone else who thought it might be a bright idea to climb that rusty ball-shearing metal door.

5_IMG_8642_5.jpg

Speaking of which, the previous set of visitors didn’t resemble explorers, more a set of dickheads.

6_IMG_8643_6.jpg

I crouched close to the water's edge hoping for a special reflective shot and hoped nothing living under there would jump out and bite my nose.

7_IMG_8644_7.jpg

They will come in very handy when it’s time to move all the sticky slime we were forced to walk on.

8_IMG_8645_8.jpg

“This place is shit mate”, and I meant it literally. To get out it was the chair, and I was not relishing the idea.

9_IMG_8646_9.jpg

Within a small portacabin, we spotted a hoard of used spanners, with some sticky red substance on a desk.

There’s no doubt in my mind what happened here. I have been watching Dexter lately and have picked up on advanced blood-spatter techniques.

10_IMG_8647_10.jpg

Someone had been held here forcibly, hand held out and those spanners had repeatedly smashed against the flesh and bone causing irreparable damage, resulting in some blood oozing.

I should go for a job at Miami Metro, I thought secretly congratulating myself.

...'or was it distant memories of Casino that were invading my mind?'...

Exiting the portacabin we realised that was it. The bloody marks on the table were the highlight; bloody wonderful.

11_IMG_8648_11.jpg

We looked inside the other massive and very empty building and contemplated the gap on the far side. Was there anything interesting if one crawled through there?

Was there fuck, in fact, it only went in for several inches and then abruptly stopped.

19_IMG_8656_19.jpg

Groaning, we headed for the chair and some more unwelcome exertion. What a pile of shit this place was.

FOOTNOTE: I have left the address on one of the images so you too can go there and get extremely bored like we did. Bring some portable ladders if you want to make things easier.

Water and spanners and shit graffiti and all I can think is... TEN IN ONE DAY!? Good grief, that's crazy!

TEN IN ONE DAY!?

We have done ten several times, the 11th is proving elusive!

Ten explorations in one day!!!... Does RedBull sponsor you and donate 100 liters per day of that "thing with Taurine" to drink?...

This time, that place, those photos... Wow! For a moment I thought: "My friend @slobberchops has visited Chernobil" :))

Great article as usual!

Ten explorations in one day!!!...

It's quite rare to do that many, maybe 3 times we have managed. I don't fart around inside these places, someone might notice us so the quicker the better.

This time, that place, those photos... Wow! For a moment I thought: "My friend @slobberchops has visited Chernobil" :))

Heheh, hardly, it was different than the usual places.. like worse!

@slobberchops!

@bpcvoter1 passed you the virtual joint!

You may not have met with any monsters, but if this had been a D&D session, that ruin would have been filled with all sorts of nasty green slimes, mimics, oozes, a gelatinous cube or two, and an otyugh. Rust monsters may also be hastening its decay into oxidized rubble, making areas far less save than they appear, like termites to wood.

That door could have turned into a rust monster, while straddling it. The thought of it... eeek.

I'm surprised you went even knowing it was a waste management area. I would have expected the smell to be pretty bad, or for some places to be dangerous. Shame that it turned out pretty boring though.

I don't recall it smelling bad, but there was plenty of slime underfoot and we had to walk around these large 'lakes' of water to get anywhere.

I'd say you're pretty brave to take on a waste management facility! I mean, there's no telling what the half-life of some of that stuff might be... notwithstanding any assortment of government and local council regulations that might have required compliance...

I was hoping for a little more in the two enormous buildings. Part of it had been demolished, the rest of what you see may also be gone now.

Definitely need to wash those boots after that trip!

So long as there's a nice patch of moist grass near the car, it's generally OK. My mats get it a lot when we do shitty places.

Today I learned the word portacabin.

Aaand that's about it. 😆 I know too many people who work in hazardous waste disposal to ever explore a joint like this myself, but thanks for sharing your foolhardiness...I mean bravery! 😆

I worked on a portacabin for several years doing IT once, can you believe it? They are more like permanent structures but can get cold in the winter.

Given your predilection for old IT gear, I think I can believe it. :)

You must be killin' it out here!
@willendorfia just slapped you with 5.000 PIMP, @slobberchops.
You earned 5.000 PIMP for the strong hand.
They're getting a workout and slapped 2/2 possible people today.

Very cool slobber Reading this is eye-opening. I'm really concerned about how waste management affects our environment. I once saw a river choked with trash, and it broke my heart. Your point about recycling more is spot on. Slobber is definitely the GOAT👌

The waste management sector needs to do better

Hi @slobberchops, may I ask why you have downvoted multiple thread posts from InLeo?

I understand and I agree that it is not fair with the other Hive participants. Thanks for the explanations, will avoid this practice in the future.

Wow, sounds like quite the adventure! I love urbex stuff, even if the places are total dumps. The pics are epic cool, especially the creepy ones! 😱 I'd totally go with you if I could.
