A study (Serotonin and aggressive motivation in crustaceans: Altering the decision to retreat) by
Robert Huber, showed that despite their existence 400 million years ago, crayfish have a developed serotonin circuit. Similar to the circuit that exists in humans.

Freshwater crayfish just like their saltwater cousins the Lobsters seek hierarchical dominance and it is motivated the same serotonin circuitry. The most motivated Lobsters will find the best rock to stay under; They will have the best mate; They will be able to stay away from predators better.

Another noteworthy thing about lobsters is that if one who is as motivated as the other seeks to take its rock...they box for the spot. Short jabs, slicing each other. After the fight, the loser of the fight bends to show that it lost. When it senses a lobster that will outweigh it in a fight it naturally avoids fighting. Crayfish have similar fights for dominance....na those conditions dey make crayfish bend. But I'm sure that's not what they meant by the statement because what we call crayfish is actually shrimp...same family tho.

The same hierarchical system exists in other animals such as the songbirds. When a songbird is singing it is shouting all those Portharcourt slurs. Da boy no near here oh! If you show this side na gbes gbes doings oh! Warning other songbirds not to approach its nest.

These hierarchical systems exist today in human societies. But in Western society is exists based on competence. That is the culture we are supposed to tend to. However in Nigeria (especially in politics) it is based on power . The very fact that Buhari is our president is a testimony of that fact. Those that voted him in clearly said that they want someone who can fight the evils of the country with evil.

But that's not what this is about. Hierarchical dominance is based on competence. The best doctors get all the patients. The best plumbers get all the customers. The best gather more attention to themselves with competence and not with power.

Our society is not a patriarchal Tyranny. If it were we'd make the most powerful people take responsibility for a lot. Bullies would be the most popular kids in school. The most powerful doctor (in terms of physical strength or the one who had more thugs) would have been the richest but it's not the case.

If a woman works hard for a spot in most industries (except the strongly corrupt political sphere) she is hardly ever denied it.

Imagine if it were true that we lived in a patriarchal Tyranny we wouldn't give women the chance to be what they wanted. But we do.

So in summary. The patriarchal dominance is a lie. And people, in general, need to take responsibility for themselves. Nobody is looking out for nobody. It's a dog eat dog world out here it always has been and always will be. But is based on how skilled you are and not how powerful. Just like the crustacean when humans lose in life they slouch...arching their backs very slightly so bullies know that they can pick on you and get away with it. So my advice straighten your back and work!!

Peace....
