A warm greeting to everyone in this beautiful Open Mic community. In this week #285, we explore the theme: “Cat Songs”. I am pleased to share my trumpet performance of “From the Start”, a jazz pop song with Bossa Nova influences composed by Laufey and Spencer Stewart in 2023. The lyrics talk about a person secretly in love with their best friend, who doesn’t share the same feelings. The song is written in the key of D♭ Major and in my case I play it in F Major. I love the melody for its fluidity, passing notes, and chromaticism. The rhythm is light and syncopated with a 4/4 time signature. It has subtle dynamics that increase in intensity as the lyrics become more vulnerable. The tempo is relaxed due to the Bossa Nova style and soft vocal phrasing. This song reminds me of artists like João Gilberto and Norah Jones.

Un cordial saludo para todos en esta bella comunidad del Open Mic. En esta semana #285, exploramos la temática: “Cat Songs". Tengo el agrado de compartir mi interpretación con mi trompeta de «From the Start», una canción de género jazz pop con influencias de Bossa Nova compuesta por Laufey y Spencer Stewart en 2023. La letra habla de una persona enamorada en secreto de su mejor amigo, quien no comparte los mismos sentimientos. La canción está escrita en la tonalidad de D♭ Mayor y en mi caso la interpreto en F Mayor. Me encanta la melodía por su fluidez, notas de paso y cromatismo. El ritmo es ligero y sincopado con una cifra indicadora de compás de 4/4. Tiene dinámicas sutiles que van incrementando en intensidad cuando la letra se vuelve más vulnerable. El tempo es relajado debido al estilo Bossa Nova y al fraseo vocal suave. Esta canción me hace recordar a artistas como João Gilberto y Norah Jones.
Since I was a child, I've loved animals, especially my pets. When I visited my grandparents' house, we always found a white American tabby cat on the furniture. This cat was the lord and master of the house, evoking tenderness, gentleness, and elegance. As soon as we saw it, we petted it. Cats have a different personality than dogs. I love their independence, their curiosity, their sensitivity, and their intelligence. They are undoubtedly superior spirits. They believe it and think we are the pets. At least that's my perception of them. The predominant pets at home have been dogs, but once, while I was away from home, I found a small cat and took it back to the apartment where I lived. For three months, I enjoyed its company, but since I had to move, I gave it to a family. Currently, many community cats frequent our house. They are incredible characters, and from time to time we enjoy their company. I hope you enjoy my performance this week. Blessings.

Desde niño amo a los animales y en especial a mis mascotas. Cuando visitaba la casa de mis abuelos, nos encontrábamos siempre a un gato americano blanco sobre los muebles. Este era el amo y señor de la casa, y evocaba ternura, mansedumbre y elegancia. Apenas lo veíamos, lo acariciábamos. Los gatos tienen un carácter diferente al de los perros. Me encanta su independencia, su curiosidad, su sensibilidad e inteligencia. Son sin duda espíritus superiores. Ellos se lo creen y piensan que nosotros somos las mascotas. Al menos esa es mi percepción sobre ellos. Las mascotas que ha predominado en casa son perros, pero en una ocasión, mientras estaba lejos de casa, me encontré con un pequeño gato y me lo llevé al apartamento donde vivía. Por el espacio de 3 meses gocé de su compañía, pero como tenía que mudarme, se lo regalé a una familia. Actualmente, en casa frecuentan muchos gatos de la comunidad. Son unos personajes increíbles y de vez en cuando disfrutamos de su compañía. Espero que disfruten de mi interpretación esta semana. Bendiciones.
