Greetings friends of the @silverbloggers community, I hope you have an excellent and blessed day. We are already in December and about to celebrate Christmas, a time of family togetherness, love, joy, and sharing that brings back many childhood memories. At this time of year, my dad used to join us while we painted the house and prepared hallacas for Christmas dinner. It's a nostalgic season filled with many memories with my sisters and family. This is my entry for:

The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt #23 - My Greatest Fear. During my childhood, one of my greatest fears was the dark. I thought that a monster could appear in a dark place and take me to an unknown location. I always tried to be with someone in dark places.

I was also very afraid of a character from a Venezuelan legend known as "El Silbón" (The Whistler). I never actually heard his whistle, but our relatives told us that he appeared on very dark nights with a distinctive whistle that was very frightening. When they talked about stories and legends, I would listen, but when it was time to sleep, I would get very scared because I thought El Silbón might appear. According to the legend, he carries a sack where he puts children who misbehave. Once, I was going to the corner store with my friend, and we saw a tall, thin man with a sack. I immediately thought it was El Silbón. I managed to tell my friend to look at the sack, and we both ran back home, terrified. We could barely speak because of the shock and fear of having seen the supposed El Silbón.

In May, it was common to hear stories about ghosts and other legendary figures like La Llorona, La Sayona, El Silbón, and other characters from Venezuelan legends and folktales, which frightened children. The arrival of rain and nights with thunder terrified me because I associated them with the terrifying characters from the legends and believed that these were the times when they appeared to scare and take children away.

Later, I had the opportunity to meet one of the creators of the El Silbón legend, and from then on, my fear dissipated. As for my fear of the dark, now as an adult, I'm no longer afraid of it. When it's dark, I try to move carefully to avoid falling or bumping into furniture or objects in the living room.

Another of my childhood fears was long streets or avenues with several houses and cross streets, even worse when there were abandoned houses on them. These spaces filled me with a kind of terror because, in my childish imagination, I believed that a monster or strange character could emerge from these cross streets, and I wouldn't be able to defend myself because the space was long and deserted. I considered the cross streets a labyrinth where I could get lost and completely unsafe from a stranger. I always avoided walking down these streets, but on several occasions, I had to cross them because they were the way to go, perhaps to the corner store, the mall, school, or to run some errand. Seeing these streets, and even when they were empty, would paralyze me because I didn't know when the monster might appear. I felt defenseless, not knowing which way to go. I overcame this fear in my adolescence.

In childhood, we are invaded by many fears, perhaps due to the stories we hear, and some of these are used by our family members or parents to instill fear in us for any action we take that goes against family principles and rules. It was very common to hear things like, "El Silbón will take you away in his sack if you don't behave," or "La Llorona will come out for you if you go to bed late," among others. That's all for my post. I invite @annafenix and @evelin71

I think all those people emigrated 🙃. Anyway, if you threaten children like that, they'll look you up on TikTok to see if you're on social media 🤣. Those were the days. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations !!
