Garage Project

After a couple days of cleanup.

Been working on cleaning up the garage the last couple days. It turned into a mess over the winter. Became the collection point for things that didn't belong there. Broken appliances. Random junk. Stuff that got tossed in there because we didn't know what else to do with it. My tools are scattered about. That is so unlike me. Will be rectified soon.

The ham shack plans have changed. Instead of the basement office, I'm looking to put it in the garage now. We don't park the vehicles in it anyway. There's not enough room. Never has been.

I have a bench right next to a window that would be perfect to set up the radios and amps on. Can run the cables through a window pass through. And bingo. Ham shack.

Son should be coming over later. I'm giving him some of my old fishing stuff and tools. Passing things down. He'll get use out of them. They are just in the way sitting in the garage.

Saturday or Sunday a friend is coming over to help me go through some stuff as well. He's a handyman and will take what he can use that I no longer want. The rest is going to be put on the curb for free or sent to the local dump. Need to get it done soon because the temps are going up and the garage gets very hot in the summer.

Which leads to another problem. If it's going to be a ham shack, it's going to need some temperature control. Can't sit out there operating a radio in 100 degree heat. May need a window unit or something. Maybe better insulation on the garage door. Haven't figured that part out yet. One thing at a time.

Anyway, we're making a dent in it. Making progress. I can get around in there now and get to stuff for the most part. That's more than I could say a week ago.

What about you? You have a space that's become a dumping ground?

Way to go brother, do it before it gets hot! It's good to pass things down to the next generation isn't it? Good luck with getting it all straightened up!

Yep, he enjoyed taking the stuff off my hands. Although it is going in boxes and staying here in a corner until he gets in his new apartment. ARGH!

Should make more considerable progress tomorrow.

My garage/shed is better described as a junk storage locker than anything else. My son whats to make a shop out of it and I said, "Be my guest." It's totally packed but what is not used inside 5 years goes out.
Now the problem is... starting. gasp.

Starting was the biggest hurdle for me as well. Finally one day I went out and started moving stuff around a little at a time. Did a little more the next day. THen today it all started coming together.

Oh dear! I can do relate to this, and I've only had my garage for three years. I have a few shelves where I've tried to put things in boxes neatly, but there's always a few random boxes on the ground when I've put things "temporarily"

Yep, its those temporary things that add up over time. After this post I went out and worked on it more with my son. It is looking much better, but still lots of work to do. Good luck with yours.

My garage gets the same way over the winter. I just had to clear my bench off the other day so I could get the trailer bearings done.

I don't plan to let it get this way again. It was just laziness on my part. Did you get the bearings done?

We never plan for it to get that bad... 😀 Yeah, got them all done. Now I found a valve and some pex I need to replace. Then I just need to test the gas lines and we should be good to go for the season.
